if you were to make a jason (daniel/jen/cult) version of your jasper, how would you do it?
yk i hadn’t thought much about this but now that you asked im very intrigued by the concept
long ass rant below 👇
for one daniel and jen aren’t one to one “opposites” of david and gwen, so jason or whatever you wanna call him wouldn’t necessarily be an exact foil to jasper but more jasper if he was way worse and was weird about god
i think jason more works like a genuine serial killer than daniel does, he’s less in it for the cult and more in it for the love of the game
we don’t know really anything about jen so i’m going off of daniel mostly for comparisons
daniel plays heavily into david’s optimism and trusting nature, and uses that immensely to his advantage to take over the camp and go for the kids, how much of daniel’s cheery disposition is a facade is up for debate, but i think a lot of it is to gain peoples trust for his own gain and to hide the fact that he’s batshit insane
my jasper is notably very laid back but also extremely paranoid: he’s been through a lot of traumatic experiences, a lot of them happening to him at a very young age and caused by people who were supposed to be keeping him safe. he’s very paranoid and self-sufficient and there’s few people who he genuinely trusts to keep himself and people around him safe. he feels a lot of pressure to be taking care of himself and all the campers to make sure no one gets hurt in the same way he did. he’s been getting better about being unhealthily afraid all the time but going back to camp has started to undo his progress; he’s away from things that he’s listed in his head as Safe (his home, his sister), and is back in the place that traumatized him surrounded by constantly neglectful circumstances and a lot of danger. he’s under a lot of stress to keep himself safe and the kids safe from threats that may or may not even exist
jason as we’re calling him would play into that: again he’s a counterpart, not an opposite, so he shares some of jaspers flare for the dramatics and general kind of performative nature. he talks funny and is very gestural in the way he acts, very charming in a silly sort of way, but more put together and “proper” than jasper is
jasper is constantly hyperaware of his surroundings again to prevent any unnecessary danger so it’s very hard to get anything past him, such as killing all his campers. if daniel or jason or anyone wanted to cause that much trouble they would have to find away to knock out jasper entirely, physically or mentally because he’s always paying attention and he has the skills and instincts to deal with what he perceives to be a threat (see jasper catching a knife, jasper with a shotgun, jasper shooting an arrow while upside down, etc). to eliminate that obstacle, jason needs to play into his paranoia, leaving him clues and riddles and puzzles (think the yin-yang killers from psych) to mess with jaspers head. jasper starts freaking out, sure that danger is coming, but no one else is being fucked with and jasper is Always sure that danger is coming so no one believes him
jasper starts to doubt himself and jason is home free until kids start going missing
jason can’t just waltz in like daniel did, cause daniel already did that and if jasper saw an off color doppelgänger of himself he would stab them first and ask questions later
so he really needs to pull the anonymous serial killer tactic or he’s gonna get caught
campers start disappearing, people start believing jasper, and so begins the 45 minute long episode of jasper solving all the puzzles and rescuing kids from increasingly elaborate death traps until it’s time to fight your evil clone on an island or in a parking lot or something similar
jasper solves the puzzles and it starts getting more personal as jason learns more about him; jasper hates bears, his sister has weird nicknames for him, preston is his favorite camper, etc. the “game” jason is playing starts getting personal to make sure jasper can’t quit, because jason is off the rails crazy (again, yin-yang from psych)
eventually it comes down to beating the shit out of each other much like david and daniel did in arrival of the torso takers, during which jasper eventually prevails because again he can shoot perfect bulls eyes while upside down and no nepo baby ass wannabe serial killer is topping that
jaspers paranoia only increases afterwards and it just adds to the list of reasons why he very aggressively quits his job later
