I want to say a big thank you to the Columbus College of Art & Design. I came here in 2011 as a graduate student and I’m sad to say my time teaching here is at an end! I’ve accepted a teaching position at BYU-Idaho, where got my BFA and where I met my wonderful wife, Candace. I am going to miss CCAD and Columbus so much. You have been so wonderful to me and my family. I can’t imagine being part of a better group of people. And with things so difficult in the world right now, I’m confident that the faculty and staff I have known for 9 years will continue to create an accepting and kind environment for our students. I am so sad to leave! I wish I could have a huge get together to see everyone, just know that you are all in my heart! We are so excited to announce that we are hosting @jonniphillips as a visiting artist next week!

Jonni Phillips is a transgender filmmaker, animator, and cartoonist from California. She works in digital, stop-motion, cut-out, and traditional hand-drawn animation. She attended CalArts from 2015 to 2019, where she made several ambitious projects, including Goodbye Forever Party, a 20-minute film, and The Final Exit of the Disciples of Ascensia, a 45-minute film, both hand drawn on paper and shot on a multiplane.

Jonni will give a public talk on Wednesday, October 9th in the Canzani Screening Room at 6:30pm. This event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so please plan accordingly!

Additionally, we are partnering with Sarah Schmidt to host a screening of Malt Adult while Jonni is here! Malt Adult #15 will be on Thursday, October 10th in the Cloyd Family Animation Center Drawing Room (DSB 142) at 7:00pm.

Final animation team project: Elementals - a short animation featuring fairies and pixies. This was a team effort by myself, Allison Duemmel, and Marie Jungling in our (CCAD) Motion for Illustration course
