Right place, Right time
Not a big post, but in light of this article from Clinical Innovation on what the Pioneer ACOs are learning about their IT needs, I wanted to pass on the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology's ACO HIT Framework. CCHIT's 2012-2013 commission includes some people I respect a lot, including Grace Terrell, from Cornerstone in North Carolina.
The theme that comes up again and again in these discussions is how to get information in the right place at the right time. It's an incredibly difficult challenge, but the wonderful secret is that healthcare, as a process, isn't that much different from other processes that use technology to move and control information. The regulatory environment is burdensome but not impossible to work with, and the culture in healthcare is unique, but the bits are still bits. It's a very exciting time to be interested in healthcare IT.
