Irene Anthology Exhibit at the Center for Cartoon Studies Gallery

Colodny Building, White River Junction, Vermont First Friday opening reception, October 6, 6:30pm 

Spanning six issues, three years, and all seven continents, the Irene Anthology defies all limitations. Editors and founders of Irene Andy Warner '12, D.W. '12, and Dakota McFadzean '12 brought together over 50 contributors to create one of the most ambitiously eclectic anthologies in CCS history. 

Original pages from Irene will be on display in the CCS Gallery from October 7 to December 1.

Panelists Mardou(Sky In Stereo), Charles Forsman (The End Of The Fucking World, This is Not Okay), Sean Knickerbocker (Killbuck), Melissa Mendes (Lou, The Weight) and Nate Powell (Any Empire, Swallow Me Whole), led by moderator Craig Fischer, will discuss how they are able to realistically and empathetically create vivid teenage characters who are struggling with morality, mental illness, drugs and the pressures of society

Architecture of a Page is a panel that’s all about LAYOUTS! Moderator J. A. Micheline chats with four cartoonists–Tillie Walden, Sloane Leong, Iasmin Omar Ata, and Chris Kindred–to discuss their thought processes when it comes to page layouts, how structure can contribute to emotional content, and their major influences/go-to inspirations when constructing a page.

Tillie Walden, in her short cartooning career, has created some stunning, critically acclaimed stories. On a Sunbeam, her unconventional science fiction webcomic, was recently nominated for an Eisner for Best Digital Comic. Tillie’s newest project, Spinning from First Second, focuses on her decade spent in competitive figure skating. This emotional graphic memoir, along with her other works and influences, is the topic of conversation for a very special panel moderated by comics historian and SPX head honcho, Warren Bernard.

The Vermont Folklife Center's Non-Fiction Comics Mini-Fest is a day-long event presenting a diverse assortment of Vermont and regional cartoonists engaged in non-fiction work. 

Swing by the Vermont Book Shop booth for book signings throughout the day with panelists Steve Bissette, Glynnis Fawkes, Rachel Lindsay, and James Kochalka. 

Stop in and meet some local cartoonists, check out their work, and learn about how comics can describe the world around us and tell stories of everyday life.
