“HE TRIED TO FIX HIS BRAIN AND MAKE HIM HAPPY.”
Dunno if I'd ever get the chance to overall mention this to @gooseworx, but here’s something I thought of recently;
I think overall Scratch overall sounding like Harlan Ellison would be fire/poetic :D
(Note; I know Harlan sadly passed in 2018, I meant like a sound alike or so, or at least a headcanon. Dunno if it'd even happen with a soundalike if it did happen, but it's just a nice thought I had as he did create I.H.N.M.A.I.M.S/voiced A.M n.n)
My hot take: Scratch and Kinger shouldn’t have been separate characters. Kinger should have been the main dev in charge of making Caine. As much as I like the idea of Scratch, the problem is the old dev cast was never expanded upon so there’s no real point to mentioning them at all. I think it would be best to make the dev team smaller (Kinger, Queenie, maybe Scratch but as a helper instead of a super intelligent main dev so he has a reason for less screen time) while the other abstracted characters came after them. At the very least it would mean we wouldn’t expect hearing more about all the characters because we would be focused on the dev team.
Finally got one of the seven comics I've had in WIPs done! RIP Scratch, the odds were against you in real life and digital life when you had your brain scanned and that digital tumor haunted you even there...
Here are my headcanon edits for the TADC first gens!
Gym thoughts- Season 2 edition with Bizco and Scratch
Scratch kinda gets skipped in going through his mind so I'm putting him here. Good thing I have these two married.
Since all we really know about the two is that they both were on the development team at C&A and Scratch was a genius with a tumor in his head, that means the rest I get to mess with.
Both were born around '72, putting them around 27 when they got scanned in. Scratch didn't realize he was gay (bi/pan- those words weren't so common back then) until he started having a crush on Bizco when they met up at a computer convention. Scratch had graduated high school early and was in college but both were around 15. Scratch was there with his college tech class with a booth while Bizco was just there for fun. Scratch found himself not wanting Bizco to leave the booth, thankful Bizco kept coming back to talk with him since he couldn't really leave the booth himself and follow him around like he really wanted to. Before the end of the day they gave each other their numbers, finding they lived in the same area code (no extra cost for calling long distance)!
Bizco knew he was gay early on. First crush was torn between Sulu and Kirk from Star Trek, which later turned towards Michael Knight from Knight Rider, Tom Baker from Doctor Who, and then after he was crushing on Scratch he still fell for Riker from The Next Generation. Makes me wonder if Scratch also had dark curlly hair.
The two would've met in 1987 if they were 15.
Scratch didn't grow up a fan of star trek, but knew enough about it from pop culture and hear say. Bizco got him watching episodes when they played on the tv and once he had a vhs player he borrowed episodes on tape in the early 90s. He grew up a fan of old Mickey Mouse comics (the era before they sanitized him and were too scared to have him do anything. Young Scratch blamed Goofy since Mickey had to step up and be the straight man in the relationship instead of the one doing wild adventures) and really loved Disney's Robin Hood. As soon as a college friend told him about people who dressed up like bipedal animals, he was all in. Made his first suit out of cardboard because his dad wasn't going to pay for everything required to make one himself and his mom didn't want him learning how to use a sewing machine. Too bad he's living on campus and actually has a small friend group. Gotta love the friend group of introverts. After his first suit fell apart after the first day of full wear he worked with his friends to make a better one.
After the two met up and spent hours on the phone with each other (Scratch's roommate was getting annoyed how long they'd be on the phone and Bizco's sister knew the teen was crushing hard but feared Scratch was straight) summer came around and they got to hang out in person. Scratch started calling Bizco a wizard, finding the teen was able to follow him quicker than anyone else had. Scratch had to figure himself out for that summer but by next summer the two were dating officially. Scratch's parents didn't disown him but they made it known they weren't happy with his sexuality. They didn't show up at the ceremony for Bizco and Scratch getting married, saying it was illegal and unnatural. Bizco's parents had way too much fun with the whole thing, bringing Scratch in as their son.
Scratch got the job first at C&A right out of college and put in a good word for Bizco after he graduated high school. This is about when Scratch learned he had a tumor growing in his head. Medical advancements hadn't made it far enough to detect it early enough so he was already on a count down. He didn't bother to hide it, using it as an excuse to speed up his ideas. When it came time to test out the brain scanner Scratch couldn't keep his plan secret from Bizco. He knew it would copy everyone's minds and he wanted there to be more for his mind to interact with. Everyone else had been so focused on getting the AI to work right after the first one started glitching out on them. He was running out of time by '99 and knew it.
Bizco kept his husband's secret but they were all surprised to find their minds swiss cheese and a pair of teeth smiling at them.
