I've zero hope from sjm now. I thought acosf was an anomaly and we'll go back to having another acomaf but now I'm sure she's one of the most talentless writers at the moment. She has to resort to lying and using cheap marketing tactics for people to finally buy her books because she knows her writing isn't worth that. I'm gonna pretend this series ended in acowar.
it's honestly amazing how i managed to be disappointed even though i had such low expectations lol in fact, i'm still in disbelief at her lie and more than ever i believe she hates her own characters.
plus, in fact, her writing is a joke. she creates easy, obvious solutions to problems and it's just pathetic. she can't develop anything she proposes well. it's simply the culmination of her being the lazy, mediocre writer that she is.
unfortunately, for pure reasons of attachment, i still have (a few) hopes that acotar5 will at least be something readable. although, as a feyre and elain stan, i have increasingly lower expectations (especially when seeing what she's done in her last two books.)
I’m about 100 pages into a house of sky and breath and I’m not feeling it?? My one friend whose reading rn too agreed it’s kinda meh. Anyone finished it yet that has any opinion?
okay but I'm not ready to see Rhysand and Ruhn sharing the same book, my heart can't take it
It really pissed me off how much Bryce neglected Hunt's feelings in HOSAB. despite their relationship being very easy and romantic, it's true. Hunt is clearly uncomfortable with Bryce's, and consequently his, involvement with the rebels. he still has a lot of trauma, he was scared to death and Bryce just said ''fuck it, I need to know about Danika''. like, Danika wasn't even a good friend, why so obsessed, Bryce?
Honestly I usually try to give SJM the benefit of the doubt with the no news in that first of all she doesn’t use socials much anyway and she gets bullied online all the time so I get why she stays off and just wants to write her silly little books, and second that logistically her maternity leave and having other things she needs to work on before acotar 5 just means announcing anything acotar is premature. However seeing Stephanie Garber promote ouabh3 ever since a few weeks after tbona does make me feel some type of way about SJM. Obviously book 3 is coming out in 9 months whereas it’ll be like 12 now for cc3, so there’s a time difference, plus Stephanie is still in the YA-standard for big YA authors in terms of promo (isn’t as big as Sarah and isn’t adult so has a smaller readership to talk to and has to do marketing as well as her publisher), so I get they’re not the same situation. But Stephanie was posting quotes and teasers before she even had a book 3 draft. I still don’t believe she’s finished draft 1? Granted the book will be half the size of any SJM book. But the whole “I haven’t written it yet!” from Sarah doesn’t fly when you have authors who release titles and snippets before it’s fully written. Especially if you’re going to keep saying you haven’t written it yet for two years+, it’s not like it’s a few months. Just a rant. I appreciate how Stephanie teased her readers. I feel sad SJM doesn’t want to put that effort in to her readers.
unfortunately this made me create a bad image of her. i've been following a few book releases with authors like holly black, kerri maniscalco, jennifer l. armentrout and stephanie herself, and they all put some effort into promoting their work. stephanie gave us quotes, spent a week playing a game with us to release the title, gave us the title and the release date! she also thanked us several times and said how important it was to her, and that ends up bringing the audience closer to her and to what she proposes with her work.
if there's one thing i learned in college, it's this: no matter how famous you are, promoting your works never hurts. you can see big brands out there that are huge and continue to invest and their campaigns and that's respectable.
i understand that the environment for sarah is not always pleasant, but it never is for people who work with the public. see all the backlash jennifer received after releasing twotq, and she continued to use her facebook group as usual. it happens to everyone and it's usually not a reason to completely stop promoting something that makes you a profit.
i personally don't think sarah is distant for any personal reason, but rather because she takes her fans' passion for granted. i'm not kidding when i say that her whole attitude (and the unsustainable situation of this fandom, formed by herself) made me distant and made me lose a big part of my interest in some couples and their books.
A trend I have noticed with SJM’s writing is that her female characters always loose their powers (ie. Aelin, Amren, Nesta) while the male characters keep them. I think Feyre will be the next victim of SJM’s writing because she is very powerful, but I don’t understand why SJM always uses this tactic. Do you have any theories as to why? It would better promote her feminist books for her to show powerful female characters that ultimately keep their magic and stay powerful. I think the reason lies in misogyny, as her female characters cannot be more powerful than the powerful male characters in her books. I can definitely see Feyre giving up or loosing her magic for the “greater good”, which is so disappointing. I would love to know your thoughts on this.
i don't think sjm should take the title of the most feminist author in the world, no. her characters all follow the same formula, and they are all white or/and blonde. she doesn't hold any movement flag.
and there's no reason for her to take away feyre's powers, in fact it would just be tiring because using her as a plot a second time in a situation where she's not the protagonist would make no sense. i hate when authors take away the powers of their protagonists, i think it's even a little sexist and one of the things i hate most about sjm. maybe she does it to reinforce how ''strong and benevolent'' her characters are, since she doesn't get a better development with the absurd amount of pages in her books (as it was with nesta, for example) but it's just ridiculous. i don't have a good answer.
all these bryce posts on her behavior are on point, im re reading Hosab and her behavior is just so frustrating 😭 they’re like “let’s go do this” her response “can’t I have a manicure in 20 minutes” then every line she makes a point in it says “she said to calmly like a queen” SJM I know you did not give this girl some childish traits just to make her queen or high lady easily. I got my eyes on CC3 because I feel like she’s about to make Bryce the most Mary Sue character she’s written yet. Feyre and Aelin have been through more trials to move up as High Lady and Queen, they went through it before they got that honor. What has Bryce really done to get any title especially a title in Prythian? I’m telling you sarah is calling her a queen over and over for a reason..im scared because Bryce isn’t all that to me but I feel like SJM will get carried away with building her up in our next books. Then she said “possibly more CC’s” im not gonna lie I don’t want anymore CC books just focus on all the ACOTAR books you already said you’d be writing because more CC will just push all the ACOTAR books even further back..this is a mess but I hope you get what I mean. Bryce becoming queen of anywhere would make me dislike the series and author and I hate that for me because I want to enjoy the future books, but not with that writing choice
I think there's so much room for theory because Bryce is the Asteri's path to the fae, but that's all we know so far. we're in the last book of the trilogy and we barely understand what Bryce's powers are.
Bryce was not built as a warrior who will do anything to protect her people. she's not Aelin or Rhys. as I already mentioned in some ask, Bryce's motivations are hers alone and do not reflect general interests. within ccty's narrative, the closest to that would be Lidia, who literally gives her all because she dreams of a better world. Bryce is not like that.
I believe Sarah putting multiple plot twists and adding multiple story elements would be stupid now. so, for me, it would be extremely random for Bryce to take on a leadership role, even more so in a different world which is the case of Prythian.
furthermore, I find it difficult for the people of Prythian to accept a person from literally another reality as a leader. (this is actually one of the reasons why I don't find the crossover interesting. I was much more curious to know about Aidas, his former lover, the princes of Hell than Bryce in Prythian with IC).
about Bryce's personality, I find her equally annoying at times. to me, she is not rude or dismissive of situations, but her recklessness and motivations are too shallow for me.
