I don't know why I always ruin Madeline's life. I never liked the sequels, but l especially didn't like Madeline-or rather, in my view, she is a much more problematic and "deep" character.

I think she struggles a lot with her appearance-mainly because she feels inferior to Emeralda (through no fault of Emeralda's, of course). Being friends with the most beautiful woman in all of Paris would certainly give rise to complexes, as would her issues with her father. In my opinion, this will lead to some difficult moments involving Frollo-something I might draw later on.

Oh well, maybe it's just me who sees it that way, and actually the character is fine. :)

Frollo's lost family or more Medieval insanity

Yeah, it's not the Frollo we all know and want carnally yet his story is still quite interesting.

His feud with king Arthur I told about in the previous post is the most common view of that Frollo. The prose Tristan, an extended version of that famous legend of tragic love, gives him a SON (again Frollo's children...) Samaliel of Gauna who became a well-known knight and even went to avenge his dad. He also defeated Key (Kay the Seneschal), Arthur's foster-brother, Gaheris (Arthur's nephew) and Griflet le Fise de Dieu (another Round Table knight). Pretty cool of him.

Merlin (a work of fiction, not a wizard) and The Vulgate Lancelot describe his as a claimant for Gaul's throne and an ally of king Claudas, a traditional enemy of Arthur, an ambitious and sneaky character and aggressive conqueror. So here Frollo is the duke/emperor of Germany, Lamanha or Gauna (I couldn't find anything about the last toponyms aside for being this Frollo's birthplaces, might as well be fictional). So he fought on Claudas's side against Arthus and his allies and challenged the king with the sad result I already provided.

Frollo got not only a son, but also dad - Ariohan. Not so much known about him; all I found was that after Frollo's death he invaded North Wales with Saxon army, but once again was defeated by Arthur and friends (Meliadus won the duel). Then he married Denmark's king's daughter and became the next king.

A story how Frollo was defeated by king Arthur and his other Medieval adventures

No, it's not an epic crossover, but a real anonymous Middle English poem created somewhere between late 14th-early 15th centuries.

Well, "Arthur" is relatively small and is about Arthur's adventures, like killing giants, conquering cities etc. But the best thing is that he meets a Paris governor (!!!) Frollo in France controlled by Rome, so this Frollo is supposedly Roman-appointed tribune. At least it's what we see in this poem and also in Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regnum Britanniae.

He prepares to teach this England brute some lessons

In a nutshell, Frollo tried to invade Gaul while Arthur was busy elsewhere. When the king came and stated an old claim on Gaul, Frollo fled to Paris, but after realizing the city is not a sanctuary for a long siege, challenged Arthur for a long duel, he even managed to wound him. Pity he lost to Excalibur eventually.

By the way, Gesta Regnum Brittaniae adds Merlin's magic that helped Arthur...

I honestly don't know if that is a coincidence or not. To be completely fair, Minister Frollo just follows a long-established cinema tradition to remove monk aspect of Frollo making him a secular authority, a scientist etc or a monk, but a good one, in order not to insult Catholic church rather than some niche Medieval reference. Though the coincidence is still intriguing.

Btw, I came to know about that Arthur poem from my uni lectures, it was truly a revelation
