Counting Days, Counting Miles: Saudi Arabia Race Weekend (Chapters 11-13)
decided to combine the post for these chapters. Snippet from one of my favorite moments:
“Fernando behind you,” Ben tells him.
No other driver’s names follow and Lance rounds turn 15 before he realizes. This is how obvious he is. This is the team’s reward. Him and Fernando, alone. On the track, just of the two of them.
Lance bites his lip roughly and continues driving, speeding up each time he sees more than a glimpse of Fernando in his mirrors. His soulmate understands what he’s doing because in response, Fernando floors it.
Lance leads them through another lap. None of it’s timed.
It feels like playground flirting, like passing a note in class. Just in luxury cars going 210 MPH.

Sneak peak:
As a video plays featuring all of the drivers in the lineup, they’re ushered out of their little corner to the stage, where Lance finds himself having some last minute touch ups done. The countdown starts as Lance meets Fernando’s eyes over Anna, one of the events team, and rolls his eyes. Fernando stifles a chuckle and all of that succeeds in making Lance feel bold as they make their way out to the stage.
He can hear Fernando’s comment. “This is the biggest project of my life.” Fernando has no idea, no clue what could be, what will be. Lance brushes his thumb over his soulmark, takes a deep breath and watches as the spotlights dance in the pathway where they’ll walk in a moment.
