Counting Days, Counting Miles: Saudi Arabia Race Weekend (Chapters 11-13)
decided to combine the post for these chapters. Snippet from one of my favorite moments:
“Fernando behind you,” Ben tells him.
No other driver’s names follow and Lance rounds turn 15 before he realizes. This is how obvious he is. This is the team’s reward. Him and Fernando, alone. On the track, just of the two of them.
Lance bites his lip roughly and continues driving, speeding up each time he sees more than a glimpse of Fernando in his mirrors. His soulmate understands what he’s doing because in response, Fernando floors it.
Lance leads them through another lap. None of it’s timed.
It feels like playground flirting, like passing a note in class. Just in luxury cars going 210 MPH.
