"hi," cecil pauses, mind buffering seconds after he's gained the confidence to talk to her again. his hands shove themselves into his sweater pockets. "i know there's no elephants around here but there are seals and dolphins. if you would like to uh, come with me i can show you where they are?"

penelope was fond of cecil. despite she knew the other was endearing, there was a looming doubt wondering if the hufflepuff was intimidated by her. but, the thought dissipated once he entered her peripheral sight.

“hey,” she greeted back with a smile. but, as she processed his words, her smile bloomed into a grin. a childish delight flickered on her expression. “bummer about the elephants, but we can leave that for next time. for now, i’d love to see the seals and dolphins with you. so, lead the way!”

"hello i don't know if you know me but, lynette told me you like elephants and coincidentally," the hufflepuff reaches into his robes to pull out a grey elephant amigurumi with a neat red ribbon tied around the neck like a little collar. "i made one recently but i don't have space for it in my room. would you like to give it a new home?" the moment the words slip out of his mouth, he suddenly regrets his small leap of confidence egged on by the ravenclaw.

“i’m sorry?” penelope questions. her eyebrows furrowed at the boy in front of her. before she gets to inquire further, the other drops a familiar name. at the sound of it, the slytherin becomes skeptical. but, such doubt melts once her gaze settles on the amigurumi. 

there’s an inexplicable surge of joy sprouting. after all, it was her favorite animal wrapped in her beloved color red. unable to refrain her smile, it grows once her eyes meet with similar ones. “i would love to! but, before that, i think i might need an introduction.“ the girl chirps as laughter follows her words. her hand extends to him, “penelope.”

"cousin do you want to go for a short walk with me?" cecil's happily smiling, tracing the corners of his owlphone with his finger. "we can take a lot of pictures together."

Karina jumps up at the thought of getting to hang out with her cousin, nodding her head at the suggestion until she remembered that he couldn’t see her nodding at him through the phone, “of course i’d love to go for a walk with you, Cecil,” she responds, verbally this time, “but we’re not taking pictures together. You always somehow outshine me in pictures and I refuse to let that trend continue.”

the apprentice.

surrounded by colored cloudy yarn, jimmy was comfortably sitting on the floor, exactly like how she enjoyed the most and usually how she would be found most of the times. but instead of rapid fingers tangling and pulling the yarn, she moved them slowly and gracefully.

her eyes weren’t focused on her work, but on the work of the boy sitting in front of her, quietly correcting him from time to time and paying attention to every little move of his. “it’s down first, then you pull, cecil.” she presses a finger at the exact point where the boy missed the move but doesn’t scold him.

she learned everything by herself and by reading books. teaching someone how to make their own plushies was like sharing her biggest secret, but somehow it was a very fulfilling experience. she tried to keep her pace slow, exactly how she wished to be taught. “you’re almost there, can you see its shape already?” jimmy smiles, the specific glint of a proud mother in her eyes.

“i want to sleep forever.”

“so you want to die.” she answers him coldly, raising her eyebrows. of course she was aware the boy didn’t mean that, he was probably just tired, but she meant to just warn him to be careful about his words. 

apparently, jimmy was constantly surrounded by hufflepuffs, which it was a huge mystery to her, but she somehow got used to it. “if you stop playing around and study on your free time, so you can sleep properly, you won’t feel that tired, cecil.”

“remember, studies are always first.”

“Allow me in?”The entrance to the Hufflepuff’s common room was only a few feet away, and with a snake attempting to invade it, someone of his familiarity became a blockade. He came off as firm but yet gentle with his words not meant to be shoved at. “I am not quite sure why you won’t,” mischief lacked in his motives; therefore, his tone is left with a potent case of sincerity, “Especially when we have a significant other in common. An upper first year. You know, the one with the eyes? I merely wish to see him.”

Minjoo finally had some time to try to help the other with his homework. She knew how boring the homework was, besides who even wanted to know the history behind transfiguration anyways other than that boring professor. As he stated that he wasn’t paying attention, she sighs softly before lifting a rolled parchment and hitting the top of his head gently.

“I know this is boring but we can get through this.” She smiles weakly, not like she had a choice. “Besides, I sort of… need you to hand mines to the professor anyways.”

penelope frowns at cecil’s words. her eyes that wondered on the boy’s turns to follow his peripheral sight. as they were both crouched down, she spots the bugs roaming around. some of them were jumping, walking or flying around.

“most bugs are defenseless though. may one or two will sting if you bother them.” she jests as she crosses her arms above her knees. but, as she sees one of the bugs get closer, her fingers uncoil from their resting place. they languidly reach for nearby pebbles, each one placed beside another.

once there was a barrier between the bugs and the tips of the hufflepuff’s shoes, the slytherin stops. her lips curl into a light-hearted smile. “it might not be the best barrier but hey. the bugs are not coming to this direction anymore.” she finalizes as she sees them stray from them and continue their path.
