"hi," cecil pauses, mind buffering seconds after he's gained the confidence to talk to her again. his hands shove themselves into his sweater pockets. "i know there's no elephants around here but there are seals and dolphins. if you would like to uh, come with me i can show you where they are?"

penelope was fond of cecil. despite she knew the other was endearing, there was a looming doubt wondering if the hufflepuff was intimidated by her. but, the thought dissipated once he entered her peripheral sight.

“hey,” she greeted back with a smile. but, as she processed his words, her smile bloomed into a grin. a childish delight flickered on her expression. “bummer about the elephants, but we can leave that for next time. for now, i’d love to see the seals and dolphins with you. so, lead the way!”

penelope adored rowan. there was a spot created for the woman whose kindness seemed eternal. while the latter did admire several qualities, there was one she believed the other caressed. her fashion sense. while the slytherin had no prejudice against the gryffindor, she did have a trivial wish on wanting to dress up the other. 

“good because i’m not going to accept a no,” she said with the ember of her determination burning brighter. “so, we meet up early in the morning and we shop till our arms and legs are sore. it’s perfect for both of us because pretty girls deserve a good splurge and bonding time with each other.”

the slytherin possessed a brave heart, always running wild at any opportunity without fallouts. but, they were some cases where some circumstances are shoved in the middle of the seemingly empty road. she stared at it as the professors roamed the common room. their eyes darting to every crevice to detect any troublemakers. which, she herself could classify as one right one.

her eyes shut briefly, a deliberate sigh impulsed with annoyance. her hands fidgeted, eager to lunge at him to see if he held an ounce of compassion. “why?” she questioned, her heart cracked at the idea of getting punishment. “actually, nevermind. my bad, can’t defeat the cold-hearted in a minute.”

penelope was no hufflepuff. she could never muster their qualities. but, there is one she embodied and it was loyalty. she believed in maintaining promises. regardless if said promises lead her to perilous situations. so, she accepted on looking out for her friend who is long gone.

her calm facade is impeccable—straight spine, smiling lips, and bright eyes. “what do you mean, professor?” the slytherin piped, her tone sweet as she teetered away from the truth. “i’m just trying to get some fresh air.” she said as laughter rose from her throat and past her mouth. the sound subdued by the nerves swarmed on the pit of her stomach. “it’s not easy rooming with four girls.”

“oh seven?” she inquired, the question stringed with surprise. “that’s so young. i barely remember what i ate breakfast. but, i guess there is one memory!” her voice gained excitement, joviality plastered like a mask. index finger raised on the air, a grin etched into her lips.

“when i was seven, i had my first crush on this boy who tied my shoes! also, my first heartbreak if we can call it that.” she jested, nostalgia echoed in the background. “he was way older than me and was not the best looking. but, he was so nice and just made me feel special, you know? plus, the shoe tying really made my heart swoon! i’m pretty sure that i tried everything to get his attention. i think i gave him this really nice flower crown. oh! also a chocolate lollipop. but, it all went down when i got told he was dating my math tutor. she was really pretty and nice so, i get it.”

having expected a rejection only seconds after his brief streak of confidence, the hufflepuff had almost braced himself ahead of time. cecil had even shuffled his feet, moving his direction away from the slytherin table towards the hufflepuff one, a small walk of shame when the other’s words stop him.

“oh,” cecil pauses, he hadn’t planned to introduce himself either, just give and run either with or without the toy back to his spot. it’s like a slow shuffling of his mind as he regroups himself for proper introduction, extending his own hand to shake hers. cecil hasn’t done this in a while. “i’m cecil, i sit over at the hufflepuff table.”

penelope admits she is still stunned at the sudden approach. her memory is fogged as she is unable to pinpoint whenever or not she has seen the boy somewhere else. but, such thought gets shoved as he presents himself and reaches for her hand.

at the mention of his name, the girl nods. “oh, cecil? what a pretty name,” the comment comes out easily as she offers him a wider smile. “ah, i see!” her eyes wander to the table decorated with shades of yellow and black. “well cecil from the table of hufflepuff, i thank you for considering me to take care of your elephant! i promise i will treat it right as it also marks our friendship, right?” she tilts her head and lets her words gain strength as her own act of courage.

As everyone knows I was out because I was sick, and (un)fortunately I am back! I bet you missed me and my super cool homework. if you say no I’ll be deducting 10 points from your house, in addition, I’ll gift 10 points to whoever says they missed me a lot, k?

But now let’s focus on this work. To celebrate the most recent muggle heroes movie, your homework will be very simple:  Who is your favorite superhero and why? 30 points will be given. Additional 20 points if you elaborate why do you think muggles like superheroes so much. extra 50 points if you can convince me why DC is better than Marvel, or vice-versa.

dear professor song, my name is penelope heo, also known as a superhero enthusiast.

so, let me present you the reasons why captain america is my favorite superhero. (mister chris evans plays him! that should be enough reason by itself.)

1) captain america has the country’s name attached to his title. talk about goals, the man will always be our king. imagine having that level of power! i know, unimaginable!

2) he represents perfection itself! the man is the pinnacle of superhuman condition. he has Intelligence (very underrated trait of his), everything required to be a True Athlete, but most importantly! he has a wonderful personality.

*okay, he may be a Bit Old. but all that knowledge had to come from somewhere! a seed doesn’t grow into a flower in a day.

3) he is just a Fighter physically and mentally.

3.a) captain america is notorious for having mastered all the martial arts and has engaged an arduous regimen that consists of aerobics, weight lifting, gymnastics! you name it, he has done it! he is embodying the word commitment and dedication right here!

3.b) his life story is just a Tragedy. shakespeare would have loved it because he wouldn’t have able to write it! that impactful it is!  a young looking-spaghetti man became america’s whole army with the super soldier serum. now, lets consider how scary that is. a true gamble. but, here captain america was accepting his destiny because he loves his people! he loves the idea of peace and always fighting for the greater good! name me a more selfless hero!

4) because he loves people so much, he has done so many things like joining the avengers, the redeemers, and partner with the ever so great winter soldier. all his act of bravery have steamed from a place of genuinity. he risks his life everyday because he wishes safety for everyone. UGH, we love this heroic man!

5) captain america was with one of the most badass woman on history! peggy carter was such a gorgeous woman in terms of Beauty and Power. attractive people gravitate towards each other. let me just say the Power Couple of the Century.

so, as to why muggles like this superhero jazz so much. i personally think its because superheroes are a symbol of hope.

there is always the same history of good vs evil and how good always wins. superheroes usually start like any other common folk but boom! they suddenly get powers. we grow attached because there’s always that small spark waiting to happen. maybe i can be the hero i always dreamt to be! they show very humanistic characteristics that makes us feel warm and fuzzy. then, we see them do all these heroic acts based on emotions we love experiencing. from that warmth, there’s pride! i think that’s what makes superheroes so appealing. it makes us see an image we want to become and i think that’s really cool.

be your own superhero, people!

p.s.a: marvel is so much better than dc because a) it has mister captain america duh. b) have you seen the cinematic masterpiece they have going on? the universe has never looked more complex. c) their movies are great! look at that beautiful cg. d) have you seen the beauty the actors are? they got the holy trinity of chris’. let me say! it feeds a poor deprived girl like me who is surrounded by ugly men.

penelope’s attention was on her owlphone. her fingers eagerly tapping the screen as she deletes notifications. before she delves further, her focus is pulled back to reality. her head lifts to the one who is responsible. before she could question the gryffindor, minjoo was already taking her hand. her question causes the slytherin’s eyes to widen slightly.

but, the impact doesn’t last long as the blonde offers her a smile. her hand squeezes the other as a reflex.  “i’d love to. just tell me what time and i’ll be ready for you.”

“whoa there,” she voices with disbelief. her hands hurriedly raising in the space between them. her features shift to display a solemn look. “i only said you looked nice today. the important word to take in consideration is today.” her right-hand side collides against her palm. the motion repeats for the last words for the sake of impact.

“the only time i will go gay is when you stop wearing those last season dark eye circles. you would look decent every single day. talk about a needed glo up.”
