CURTAINS, LAMINATES, BEDSHEETS, AND LIGHTING
With the title, “Camp Haven: A Home Away from Home”, a renovation project was launched last October 29,2018 by four graduating interior design students from Mapua University.
Renovating institutional spaces in need of design improvement has become a tradition in recent years in Mapua University Interior Design enabling the graduating class to apply the skills and knowledge they have gained throughout their college years, at the same time having the opportunity to help create a better living space for people in need at no cost from them. This year, the chosen partner institution was Silungan ng Pag-asa, which is a halfway house that gives shelter to pediatric cancer patients and families from different provinces while getting treatment here in Manila.
To transform the bedroom (designed by Maoi Mae Muros and Mariel Lesley Victorino) and the function area (designed by Gelica Patricia Buaron and Kristen Grace Royong) in Silungan ng Pag-asa are the intentions of the renovation project. With the concept of a ‘Camp,’ a child-friendly and flexible design is reflected in the new design of the space. Camps are often places where children meet new people and build relationships, while being in the safety and comfort of their environment. The patients had to be away from their homes in the provinces to get treatment in Manila, which is why the students opted to create a space where they would still feel at home despite the temporary stay. This is made possible with the participation of Cedarside Industries Inc., generously sponsoring the lights; the fabrics used for the curtains, blankets and pillowcases; and the laminates used for the bedroom door and built-in cabinet doors, all of which contributed in achieving a warmer and homelike environment for the institution.

The students asked for a partnership with the said company as it is in their knowledge that Cedarside Industries Inc. are composed of good quality products. The company’s purpose was to introduce interior space products that are of high quality measuring up to the needs of its clients. Currently, Cedarside Industries Inc. has expanded to providing six product lines – Furniture, Fabrics, Blinds, Laminates, Wallcovers and LED Lights.
