(for context, Juniper is a city elf that in my canon joins the inquisition as an agent and a gardener, and ends up falling in love with Thom/Blackwall)

It starts because he loves animals and finds himself helping Dennet with the stables: of course, he would run into Thom.
A lot of humans seem proud, standoffish. but “Blackwall” is more subdued, like he’s aware of himself, too aware, and June finds that comforting and understandable. His aura is calm, and June finds himself watching Thom carve beautiful little things out of soft woods. He sometimes leaves Thom little gifts of different types of woods.
At some point, Thom notices him watching and invites him in because surely standing cant be comfortable. He insists, standing and getting June a stool despite him protesting at first. He watches Thom use tiny tools to create texture and form, a large man with large hands acting so delicately and with such care that June finds it endearing.
It becomes routine for both of them. June finishes his work for the day and comes with dinner. They sit by the fire and eat as June tells him about the gardens and the shipments of seeds that he received as Thom absentmindedly carves.
One day Thom gives the “something small” to June. He’s been working on it for days – it’s a small flower, delicately detailed in the veins of the leaves, and the petals are smooth. It’s on a small chain, simple and silver, “nothing special,” Thom says, selling himself short: it’s beautiful. A project Thom had been working on whenever June came to mind: flowers, new growth, changing your lot in life and moving on as a new person - all things that Juniper has done that Thom admires.
June wears it constantly, almost never takes it off. He displays it over his shirt and thumbs the smooth petals when he’s anxious. He tries to find a way to return the favour. He creates bouquet after bouquet and realizes that nothing seems right until it hits him.
He’s in love.
At first he doesn’t want to do anything. He shuts down, dedicates himself to his work, trying to calm down and work himself through his feelings before he feels he can truly deal with the situation.
It feels like forever but it really only happens over the course of a few days.
Next time he brings dinner, he brings a small flower too: a single dawn lotus. He confesses.
