thoughts on yuji itadori still looking young
Hooo there are so many possibilities, I could speculate forever!!!
There is always a chance that Yuji looking young in the few shots we’ve seen of him could just be because it was the last time anyone in Jujutsu society saw him (the fact that they have to look for him means he’s on his own and under no one’s control, which could be fun to speculate reasons for), and so when they think about him that’s what they see
If he really has stopped aging though, from that glimpse of him in the crowd, he towers over everyone (Gege did say he was still growing!), so I’d say he probably at least aged into a full adult.
As for what caused it,
it could possibly be because he’s Kenjaku’s experiment. Maybe part of being the perfect vessel was longevity, reaching your physical prime and then staying there forever.
It could also have to do with consuming the death paintings and possibly other cursed objects later on, slowly making him more curse than human.
It could be an effect of having shared a body with Sukuna (meaning Megumi would be in the same boat 👀 They could suffer together and then kiss and more about it as god intended)
It could maybe even be an accidental binding vow/curse from someone
—> @cheronoble suggested in the itafushi nation discord the idea of Megumi reversing the “live a long life” line from the detention center and accidentally cursing Yuji with immortality and that made me a puddle on the floor 😭
I think there is also some significance in the Kalyan being immortals who cannot have natural deaths. It makes me think about the parallels to Yuji and his desire for people to have “proper” deaths surrounded by their loved ones (as well as the Kalyans being sacred and worshipped by Rumelians, as Yuji is considered The Strongest™️ now since Gojo is gone). But if he’s the only immortal, it means he’s cursed to watch his loved ones age and die while he stays the same. There are no loved ones left to be there in his final moments, and the only way death could be achieved is if he’s murdered. So, one of the most important things to him since the beginning of the series is now something he can never have 😭
God I could yap about this forever, but I’ll stop while it’s still somewhat comprehensible. That little snippet of Yuji in this chapter really ignited something in my brain and it’s so fun to think of all the possibilities. Yuji’s lived an additional 60 years since we last saw him, truly anything could have happened since then.
