A haunting emptiness was the best to describe the scenario. Something had went wrong with the world and Jia had no idea how it happened. The world had suddenly died along with the people in it. Jia sought out help in different buildings, but every place was empty or had dead bodies inside of them. Jia held her nose as she crossed over the dead bodies to scavenge for something that can help her. She had to experience a few living dead during her search, so searching for some weapons could help greatly. Jia is not a fighter, maybe the original Jia was, but this Jia was not. Her specialty was caring for others and having the need to kill others, alive or dead, changed something in her that she never wished it did.
Jia felt disgusted. Blood was splattered on her clothes and specks of it on her face. She wanted to find a place where she can wash off, but in all the places she searched the water source was scarce, and it was either hydration or cleaning herself up. There wasn’t much that she could find and the more time passed, the more hungry she got. Food was the most difficult. She had to search in every nook and cranny of the homes and even then she could only find less than 5 cans. It was as if people were prepared for this, but not enough to survive.
The more Jia looked, the more desperate and scared she became. She ran and ran until her knees buckled and fell to the ground. Her legs were shaking and it was difficult for her to stand up again. Jia breathed heavily and began to look around to spot a place where she could rest in the mean time. On her right there were a few convenience stores, but the glass windows were broken. On her left was a one story elementary school that looked pretty intact.
Ding!.. Ding!... Ding!...
Jia’s face lost its color as the three loud bells rang from the elementary school. She stood up despite her legs screaming out in pain and stood there silently until the last ring spread across the empty city. After a moment of silence, loud groans of hunger emerged from behind and from the front and a few from inside the stores. “Oh no...” She bit her lip and began to move. The closest place was the elementary school and she wasn’t sure if it was safe, but it was the safest bet out of all of the choices.
She entered the building and took a broomstick in order to place it in between the handles. She shook the doors to check if it was locked and then walked further into the school. The place was empty, and it made her feel a lot better, despite hating to be alone. But it was being alone to being surrounded by them. The first choice was much more desirable.
“I’m so hungry...” She sighed as she entered a few classrooms. They were empty, but stained with blood. Her heart sunk at the sight of it. There was nothing she could do and it pained her knowing it. Entering a room, she saw many tables and kitchen supplies all over the floor. She walked in cautiously, watching where she stepped, not wanting to make any noise and attract unwanted attention.
