do you have any advice for writing fanfics? I’m considering trying to write my own twst stories but I always doubt my ideas and have a hard time writing them.
Hm.. I am not sure if I am the right person to give advice when it comes to writing fanfic, because even now, I still tremble a little every time I have to click that post button.
But if I have to say anything, I would say: just do it.
My motto in life is “it is what it is” and “fuck it, we ball.” Post that fanfic, anon. Even if you think it’s bad, the first challenge you need to overcome is clicking that post button in the first place.
When you write fics, don’t overthink how it will look when it’s finished. Just pour what you want onto the page first and see the result later. Treat it like a diary. Let it be raw. That’s fine. Your fic does not always have to be perfect.
Fanfic is free, and you wrote it in your free time. As a reader, I treat fanfic like a free meal and devour everything like the glutton that I am. And if other people don’t like it, then fuck them, it’s free?!😭
I am lucky that I am currently in a position where at least 3–5 people will like something I wrote, and it gives me reassurance. But it was not always that way, and I believe most writers do not “take off” immediately either. Just post, post, post.
One of my Ao3 readers, sunflowerhoneymustard, once said: “a work born out of passion is bound to touch the hearts of those who can appreciate it.”
And even if it’s only 1–2 people, for me, that is enough :) I am satisfied already. (I am not glazing, one Ao3 reader literally resurrected me from the dead. But that is a story for another day.)
Post it anon, and let me know how it turned out for you. Maybe one day, by pure chance, I will stumble across your fic too, not knowing it was yours, and fall in love with it all the same :)
