Friendship Aesthetics: Celaui

SO when we decided to make this the task this month, I knew right away that my first aesthetic was going to be Celaui. From the get go, it’s felt so organic to me to watch these two characters interact, their plot sorta springing up from the ground. Like, it wasn’t a case of “Oh, we like these characters together, what are they gonna do next?” (which isnt a bad thing or anything)-- there was a natural progression from thread to thread, alllllllll the way up to Maui’s confession that he was in over his head. And so I got plot heebie jeebies with these two and read every thread eagerly to see what happened next. Because it wasn’t forced, it wasn’t deux ex machina’d-- it was just meant to be, kinda?

But not in the romantic way which leads me to why this is my number one BROTP. There have never really been any time where I thought there were like romantic~ sparks~ between these two and that was really REFRESHING, especially since Maui is a low-grade fuck!boi (love him annnnyway) and his relationships with other female characters can be kinda charged with that sexual~ undertoe. But not Celia. And I don’t think it’s because Celia isn’t gorgeous (she is), I think it’s because from the start, Maui and Celia sort of take care of each other and support each other like a brother/sister would. Especially Maui to Celia. One thing I’m really eager to see going forward is how Celia supports Maui too, considering she took his confession like pretty #negatively, though Maui obviously is in need of reassurance despite all that bravado. I really hOPE that will change and their relationship will continue to grow and become a bit more balanced. 

OR maybe it will smash into the rocks if Celia lets her powers turn her #dark and I will be sad D: But even then, it would be hella interesting to see the two on opposite ends considering this friendship as a foundation. Could Maui bring her back?? Is Maui part of Celia’s Grand Villain Origin story??? What will happen next??

MK’s Friendship Aesthetics: Celia and Maui [Celaui]

UGHHHHH CELAUIIII. This is just what I was saying the other night about a relationship that just comes out of nowhere and just hits you right in the honeynut-feelios. I wasn’t planning anything with Celaui and then Celia told Maui about her powers. 

Then, Maui had to tell her about how he became Maui and it just felt so right, like, who else would Maui tell? It’s just such a beautiful relationship and even though it’s broken a little right now, it’s not above being fixable, and I think that’s really real. Like--friends hurt each other. They say and do things that they don’t always mean. Friendships are just like relationships--you have to work at them in order for them to be good, healthy, lasting relationships.

What I extra love about this is the fact that it is male/female. Like--Maui is a total player and he grew up in a place full of toxic masculinity. (Seriously, I did some reading on the culture, and, a lot of people’s biggest issue with Moana was that she was the daughter of the chief and going to inherit the role of leader sooo...make of that what you will.) I wasn’t planning on him having many female friendships (and now both his best friends are female?? idk man), but it has help shaped him a lot so far. 

He’s not just kind of a sleazy boy, he really does have a good heart, and he’d never want to make someone feel uncomfortable or like they weren’t having fun with him. It’s just such an interesting dynamic because of what happened to Celia. Both of their genders are very heavily part of their storylines and to see them overlapping--Maui learning about rape culture and Celia learning to trust men again--is really beautiful to me.

Impedimenta ~ [BHP] [Celaui]

Right, so, here was how classes had gone for Celia and Maru, ever since Maru had found Celia that night in the woods:

Celia would get up, take her stance, and Maru would mutter the curse under his breath, do his best to not get caught doing the wand movements. Mostly, it just looked like he was practicing, which made sense, because he wasn’t the most brilliant wizard in the world. It had all been sliding so far. He didn’t always hit the spell right on target, but as long as it looked like Celia cast it--things were going swimmingly. 

They were working on the Impediment Jinx now, outside on the field during Defense Against the Dark Arts. Professor Foley was having things rocket towards them and it was their job to slow them down. The students were lined up in a row, Maru just behind Celia. Leaning forwards, he whispered in her ear.

“It’s alright, I’ve got you. I’ve been practicing.”

celia makes maui watch stupid movies with her like legally blonde and maui complains a lot (but secretly likes them)

celia is heavily featured on maui’s instagram and has gained quite a following herself because of it.

now that celia knows about maui’s little secret, maui probably tells her more than anyone else about his fear of failure, tho he still doesn’t mention it often.

sometimes, celia has nightmares and she comes and sleeps in maui’s bed. they don’t touch but it’s still real cute.

Round One ~ [Celaui]

So, it had been about a week since Maui had met the girl who could turn living things to stone and he’d kept his promise and hit the books (even if it was mostly boring.) He’d skimmed and scanned for any mention of a power like hers. There had been a few, but none which seemed to be caused by spells or potions, which, y’know just begged more questions:

Was the stone exactly what the sorcerer had envisioned? Or was the stone simply a manifestation of Celia’s wishes? They were probably going to have to consult an actual sorcerer. Maui had filed that idea away--there had to be a sorcerer around here who they could talk to about it, though just based on how jumpy Celia had been about telling him, he didn’t know if bringing that particular avenue up right now was going to do any good.

Instead, he’d just found out what he could about controlling unruly powers. Most the stuff he found was about empaths--which wasn’t exactly helpful. Though, he was gonna suggest the whole breathing techniques thing and the tailsman thing--maybe that would help.

Who knows?

Not Maui. 

Still, when Celia had texted him and asked him to come over, he’d sorted all the information in his brain and all his ideas and all the possibilities (there was a lot of all of this) and made his way to her place. Knocking on the door and then rubbing his hands together--this cold was doing an absolute number on him. Sure, the snow was great but it was fucking freezing. He wasn’t used to it at all.
