I've been thinking about positive things I can do towards the #blacklivesmatter movement because of all the anger and heartache our black brothers and sisters are feeling right now. There are images being shared of those who have lost their lives to the brutality of white racists. As a white person, I will never truly embody the systemic pain and sadness the black community feels everyday, but I want to do what I can. I like to take photos and make colour palettes out of them, so I was thinking if any black friends would like to share either photos of themselves or loved ones and include an anecdote about that person (whether it is happy or sad, or whatever you feel comfortable with sharing), I would love to make a personalised colour palette from the photo and share it on social media. I know it's only a small thing, but among all the pain and sadness, I wanted to celebrate the black community beyond what we see in the media, beyond the stereotypes white culture forcefeeds us... I want to capture our black brothers and sisters in pictures that celebrate their individuality, achievements, talents, bravery, fierceness, and power.
