Grian shushed Hotguy sharply when he groaned, so of course that was when he stiffened and tried to get away, even though the guards didn’t change shifts for another ten minutes and some of them were headed towards their hallway. Grian elbowed him lightly in the gut, more of a reminder elbowing if you asked Grian, and Hotguy elbowed him back hard.  

Not hard enough to wind him, though, so that could mean something. Grian hoped it meant Hotguy recognized him as an ally or was biding his time, because the alternative was that Hotguy wasn’t strong enough to escape the grip of a poor little freelancer who spent his spare time gazing into space, and that would be a rubbish situation for both of them.

I've got long forgotten god Scar and his favorite avian mortal Grian on the brain.

Scar has been around for a long time at this point. Mortals have long forgotten his existence and what he represents. He has watched the mortals for some time now, mildly curious about their achievements. However, Scar has started to grow bored of the mortals. That is, until he sees a mortal with beautiful wings.

When Scar first saw Grian, his wings were the first thing he (Scar) noticed. Scar would describe those feathers as being made of ruby, citrine, and sapphire. The god would eventually see Grian's face and call it beautiful. Grian enraptured Scar and he must know more about this mortal.

And the more Scar watched, the more he learned. The more he learned, the more he grew to adore Grian. This mischievous pesky bird wormed his way into Scar's heart. Does Grian know this? No. It does come with its perks though.

Scar may not be able to leave his realm in godhood to fulfill his dream of interacting with Grian, but that doesn't mean he can't show his favor towards this mortal. Scar has blessed Grian on multiple occasions. He has even gifted Grian items that he can wear to show that favor.

As time goes on, that favor becomes more of a claim. And gods are very possessive of what is theirs.

Enter the cult that "worships" Scar (read worship as completely misconstrued Scar as a god). They kidnap Grian to perform a blood sacrifice for Scar. That goes about as well as one would expect. Scar is not happy about this.

Scar is pissed. These nimrods took his beloved mortal. Took that mortal's ability to fly away. And were going to KILL his mortal in HIS name. Not on Scar's watch. Although, he should thank them for one thing. Scar can now bring Grian to him, as his mortal is an offering from the cult. It's a loophole to get Grian into Scar's realm.

And that's exactly what Scar does. One moment, Grian is on an alter to be killed on. The next, Grian is on a bed softer than anything he's ever felt. Scar, meanwhile, is smiting down the fools that thought they could kill his beloved.

Afterwards, they finally meet face to face. And Grian is smitten. They talk for a few hours. Eventually, Scar mentions that Grian is his. That does things to Grian. One thing leads to another and Grian is not leaving his beloved god <3.

Has anyone heard of the Count of Monte Cristo musical?

If you haven’t, go listen to ‘I Know Those Eyes / This Man Is Dead’ from said musical and tell me your thoughts on it because I’m being so fr when I say it would make possibly the best Secret Life! Scar x Watcher! Grian animatic like holy shit ITS SO FITTING

I’m gonna pull up the lyrics now but I highly recommend walking in blind and experiencing the song on your own/coming to your own conclusions (tell me your thoughts if you do!)

I can’t be the only one who can see Secret Life Scar singing this, like yeah maybe the vibes of the song are not very fitting BUT THE LYRICS CHAT

Only Scar would find a way to describe Grian’s creepy void eyes as something mesmerizing, also with how the song talks a lot about the first singer recognizing the second’s gaze/eyes specifically like it would play so well into the Watcher symbolism

I like to believe the “Only Winner’s Remember” so this part means so much more, the realization and betrayal of “how could you be so distant and hurtful, especially when you got to remember what we were to each other?” The resentment from past games and the longing, frustrated because Grian is so close yet also out of reach

Edmond’s part is when we switch to Grian, who is both trying to deny his identity as someone close to Scar but also in general saying “I’m not the same person you were with back in Third Life, these games have changed me”

So basically he’s gaslighting by literally saying “I’m not Grian, I’m a Watcher, you’re crazy bro” while also metaphorically trying to tell Scar to let him go, that he’s not worth standing by because he’s already gone, he’s not even a player, he’s not even Grian as a person but rather as a concept, someone who never meant to play the game but did so anyway

Someone who’s only dragging Scar down

This last part I feel is in the most part self explanatory, the “can either of us really ever be free?” having the double meaning of wanting freedom from both the games but also this weird dance that they keep doing around each other, where neither can decide concretely just how they feel about the other, and then the song ends with Scar suspended, waiting, hopeful maybe, but Grian shuts it down saying they have nothing to discuss, and they move need to let go

Anyway

That’s literally them, like I need someone to animate this, ITS LITERALLY THEM??? Chat the angst potential please

writing is so hard. I don't want to go through all the boring but important bits, I just want to write and post a heartbreaking scene where Scar and Grian's kid asks why Scar is scared of her.

(it's because she's a Watcher, being Grian's kid, and Scar was trapped by the Watchers for several years while she grew up)
