Some Death Was A Temporary Inconvenience chapters that I've got cooking (note, cooking here means that I have actually begun writing them in the google doc)
Doctor: Probably 5, but could work with an Doctor after (and possibly including) 4. Something to do with the fact that one of the most common reasons a companion (mainly female ones) would leave is that they fell in love with someone they met on their travels and worries that sooner or later Marion is going either leave or want to leave and be unable to and later resent him. He wonders if he and Marion should fall in love so that doesn't happen. He tells a companion about this who quickly tells Marion who quickly says "he's spiraling and doesn't need to do that" Idk if this one will ever get posted because I'm worried people will get the take away that the Doctor actually has romantic feelings towards Marion or that he's directly trying to manipulate her when the side story is actually a result of me thinking about how while I don't know that I necessarily headcanon the Doctor as being aromantic, the whole "long term companion leaves after spending two (2) hours with a guy she just met and deciding she wants to stay with him and stop traveling with someone she's known for Much MUCH longer" thing feels aro-coded to me.
4 +1 involving the Doctor napping on Marion and Marion napping on him that is in FACT an excuse to discuss Marion’s relationship with the Doctor from various POV's including Two, Romana I, the TARDIS, Amy, and Marion herself for the +1 [this one is probably closer to being done than the others. I just need to write Amy and Marion]
The one where Marion is the TARDIS. OR Maybe the TARDIS is Marion. It's very much a Distortion type thing where I make Marion vaguely weird, unsettling, and eldritch. Will mostly involve a series of 100-200 word interactions with various characters
Marion settles an argument between Six and Peri. (It’s a very dumb one)
One and a half person POV involving "the Mysterious She" as I, addressing the woman with the star speckled skin as "you" concerning the events on October and November's chapters.
Very much hoping Sutekh doesn't appear in the new season because him being alive by nuwho would make me unable to do a scene I've wantes to do since like 2020
Random Fun Facts About Marion (some more specific than others. Some I have only mentioned once and then it didn't come up again)
She has never flat ironed or otherwise attempted to straighten her hair and she has 0 intention of doing so ever for any reason.
She is a member of the "my younger sibling got a growth spurt and is now taller than me" club
She is terrified of spiders, but does not mind rats or snakes.
Her go-to d&d class is a Wild Magic Sorcerer.
If Marion herself were a d&d character, she's be a GOO Pact of the Blade Warlock who thinks she's an Eldritch Knight Fighter.
She is right handed, but can write legibly with her left hand if she needed to. Her right handed handwriting is signifcantly better.
She knows some ASL, but not very much. She can fingerspell and say some very very basic things. She took it in highschool, but never really had the time to continue it in college or any real opportunity to practice so she's not as good at it at 23 as she was at 16-17 ish.
Marion is a certified belayer.
The best wall Marion has successfully climbed was a 5.11 (although she's fairly certain it was a mislabeled 5.8 or 9)
Marion hates overhangs.
Marion’s go to modle making material is Bristol and Cardboard
Marion has always had anxiety, self esteem, and problem avoidant issues, it's just prior to now. She is just facing scenarios that speak to her specifc brand of neurosis and her new abilities are simply facilinating her self destructive tendencies and self worth issues bc while before she could talk herself out of things by reminding herself she's not physically strong enough to do x, or that if she did y she could get seriously hurt or die, and so the fact she didn't do them makes her a bad person, the fact that she physically CAN do something tells her that she should, even though it's not great for her mental health and she could probably find an alternate solution if she stopped to think instead of just acting.
In addition to loud or high pitched noises, she can't stand the textures of certain types of wool. It makes her skin crawl.
Probably best to put this under a read more. I know that Tumblr auto-shortens these, but, you know, to be safe.
Favorite Doctor
However, in her own head, she DOES have an ever-fluctuating list of "which Doctors would I most like and most NOT like to see right now" and a Doctor's spot on the list dependent on her current headspace.
Short answer: If anyone asks, she loves all incarnations of the Doctor equally. She does not want to encourage the Doctor's almost pathological self-loathing by saying anything that would cause them to think
1. Marion sees me as a stop gap towards the man she actually likes.
2. My current form is the most liked by Marion I will ever be, it is all downhill from there
3. Marion liked who I used to be more than I am now, but there's no going back to them.
Sometimes One and Two are her favorites because "As far as they know, she's never truly failed them" (One died of old age).
Sometimes One and Two are her least favorites because "As far as THEY know, she's never truly failed them". (If I ever get to War Games there's going to be a bit where the Doctor goes "Marion, I know that this might be spoilers. But can you please, please, give me a hint on what I need to do to get out of it." And the Doctor learns a new facial expression of Marion's.)
If she just finished an adventure where the Doctor “died“, sometimes she’d be happy if the next Doctor she saw was Three (actually knows self-defense) instead of very early One (i haven't gotten to write him but he ignores her out of spite), Four (King of Hearing Marion's Warnings, Going "I Have A Better Ideal" Running Into Danger And Being Knocked Unconcious) or Six (Sixth Doctor? More like Six Feet of Hubris aka King of Talking Shit and Getting Hit).
But sometimes, she sees Three and he's the last person she'd want to be around. Not JUST because he was the first Doctor she saw die, but because seeing him makes her think of Two (and War Games and, how she Failed Him and that's why he's On Earth)
And sometimes she sees Four and he's her favorite because, especially when they're in the TARDIS and not traveling, he's the easiest to like, listen to ramble. He's just kind of chill, or at the very least, good at acting chill.
But sometimes, outside of the TARDIS him constantly getting into danger and his sort of laissez-faire "well, if it was GOING to kill me and you didn't have that expression on your face that means I'm doomed you'd surely get to me in time so I can afford to Take A Risk" is stressful.
Five is a BIT more careful, which is nice and gives him points, but also Five (especially older Five) gets really freaked out when she gets hurt and that makes her anxious because on the one hand, she doesn't want to upset the Doctor but on the other hand, what's she supposed to do. NOT do everything in her power to keep him safe? Hell no.
Sometimes Six is her favorite because of the banter. And because even though he acts grumpy about it, he WILL hug her (sometimes without her needing to ask)
Sometimes Six is her least favorite Doctor because she is NOT in the mood to mediate between him and Peri and she's TRYING especially since she doesn't want to be mean, but right now the sound of them arguing is like sandpaper on her brain and there's like 90% whatever argument is going on was started by Six so it's HIS fault.
Sometimes Seven is her favorite Doctor because of the way he's able to "trick" her into talking about how she's feeling and at the end of the talk she feels better.
Sometimes she'll be in a mood and see Seven and go "dammit, that's the LAST guy I wanted to see right now". I do NOT want to talk about this shit right now.
Ten is always moving always being clever. The two of them have great chemistry.
But sometimes Ten is being too Time Lord Victorious and it's frustrating to deal with.
Eleven is energetic. He's fun. He keeps Marion on her toes, which sometimes means she doesn't have to think as hard. They can bounce off each other. Most of the time he's Honest with her (except when he's not)
All the Doctors have this problem, but sometimes Eleven is so transparently hiding the way that he feels about something that it makes Marion feel exhausted and frustrated because Why Won't He Talk To Her [this is def a pot meet kettle situation]
Sometimes her favorite Doctor is Thirteen because even though she can CLEARLY see Marion is in a mood, she doesn't directly ask Marion about it, and simply ask if Marion wants a distraction to see her work on something.
Twelve is a very young old man if that makes sense. He plays off Marion well.
But like, with it happens more and more with the older Doctor's Marion gets this sense that it's not that the Doctor doesn't like her, but that he looks at her and wishes he was talking to a version of her that's a couple hundred years older than she is. And he doesn't say anything, and Marion doesn't say anything that she notices, but it's like, an elephant.
Sometimes Thirteen is her least favorite Doctor because what she needs more than anything is a strong hug so tight she can FEEL the Doctor's hearts beating against her head, and she knows that the Doctor doesn't really like physical contact and Marion is too Marion to ask if she could have a strong hug anyway so she makes due with watching the Doctor's chest rise and fall as she breaths.
I think she likes Fourteen being more empathetic, but also the way he panics makes Marion feel guilty if she had just been better at keeping him safe and whole and happy and calm he wouldn't be as panicked as he is now. did she even do anything? help at all
Sometimes her favorite Doctors to be around are younger Doctors (Can't interpret every little micro expression of hers and expertly determine her mood when she's trying to avoid talking about it.)
Sometimes her favorite Doctors to be around are older Doctors (she can talk to them more without worrying of slipping up and spoiling.)
{I haven't written anything with Fifteen yet, mostly bc I don't feel like we know enough about him and his personality yet for me to fully jot down examples of headspaces where he'd be Marion's favorite and one's where he'd be her least favorite.}
Favorite Companion
Marion tries very hard to not have a favorite companion but she's not as successful at is as she is with Doctor since, you know, companions aren't all permutations of the same person.
She would never SAY who her favorite companion(s) are, but in no particular order Jamie, Bill, and Jo.
Bonus Question you didn't ask but I choose to answer free of charge: What About Companions? Do Any Companions Have Favorites Between Marion and the Doctor (even if it's not an EXTREME favorite to the point they dislike the other just like a preference if we're splitting up and Marion and the Doctor are for some reason investigating different things)? [This is not an exhaustive List just a small handful of names.]
Marion:
>Mickey
>Tegan
>Adric [Fifth Doctor]
>Martha
>Barbara
>Rory
>Mel
>Peri [Sixth Doctor]
The Doctor:
>Vicki
>Sarah [Fourth Doctor]
>Jamie
>Rose
>Amy
>Clara
>Peri [Fifth Doctor]
>Ruby
About Equal:
>Adric [Fourth Doctor]
>Romana [1&2 (although it goes from these two are both idiots /neg to these two are both idiots /aff)]
I've come up with more AUs since the last time this was ask
Marion Is The Tardis
So, in the AU where Marion is the TARDIS console (which with the newest episodes in mind might be very interesting. "Doctor, don't mean to alarm you just to let you know, the God of Death is hitching a ride with us." "What" "Yeah. Like I said I don't mean to alarm you..it's being dealt with" "How" "Can't say. I mean literally can'y say. Don't about it though worry").
The idea I had is Marion having a physical form that LOOKS fairly human, but is vaguely uncanny in the things that she says and does (I had an idea that she does the Janet thing where she always appears out of the corner of her eye and also that if multiple people are talking to her, they might describe her as being in different places). Her "projection" can leave the TARDIS, but it can't (or won't it's hard to tell) enter Other TARDISes.
She's possibly anchoring herself to the Doctor when he leaves. If asked if she's trapped in the TARDIS Marion asks the asker if they consider themself trapped in their body. Console!Marion is experiencing all of time all at once and her personal "present" is what she is currently focusing on (she implies she doesn't really have a choice on what to focus on at any given time and uses metaphors like looking at a particular page on a book or the rolling of dice).
Console!Marion can talk to multiple people at once assuming they are physically inside of the ship. Marion kind of helps the Doctor property pilot the TARDIS, but it's tricky.
Marion is a Time Lord and the Doctor is an odd human.
So we start out with a Patrexi named Emaeharayowen (read the name out loud). Emaehar is sat in front of the untempered schism, she sees all of time and all of space and the main thing she takes away from it is three things. The first is that the universe is full of so much beauty and wonder, the second is that the universe is full of so many creatures that want to destroy that beauty and wonder, and the third is that the Time Lord policy of non-interference allows the second to destroy the first and she can't have that.
Em doesn’t go to the museum with the intent to steal a capsule, but the woman with dark brown hair and eyes insisted and she's not one to ignore that sort of thing.
So she flies the capsule best she can (the ship likes her but it's navigation system is wacky and the previous owner used so many custom settings the manual is useless) going around a fixing things as they go wrong to keep the universe universing.
Late 1962 she investigates one such incident where aliens attempt to freeze Earth solid aided by a young girl named Susan Foreman who has also been trying to fix things. (Read the novel Time and Relative)
Crisis averted, Susan regularly goes to the junkyard where (I'm not sure if Susan calls her Miss Em or thinks her full name is her spelling her name and calls her Marion) has landed her TARDIS because she's very cool and she teaches her advanced science
one day, in November 1963, she's followed by two teachers and her grandfather Dr. John Smith who want to know where she's going off to.
The three all enter the TARDIS. Dr. Smith messes with the console trying to open the door. The TARDIS flies off and Em doesn’t know how to get back as she never set the coordinates in the first place. She just set them to take her where there was trouble.
More things happen. Susan goes home with Ian and Barabara while Doctor John stays
Em taps into the Time Vortex and so she knows when John is in danger
then one day, after an antartic incident with Cybermen and his age catching up to him, despite Em's best efforts to get him home, he dies.
From here I'm toying with a few ways to bring in other Doctor’s bc I don't want them to be full separate guys but either Em accidentally gives him a regeneration cycle trying to heal him (bc surely something like Old Age can be fixed. She can't lose John NOW, she refuses!), John is still the Timeless Child. He just got chucked to Earth instead of Gallifrey (...huh...I didn't think humans could do that...). Some kind of Reincarnation with memories where soon after the old man dies, the TARDIS takes Em to a certain time and place on Earth with a man with a Beatles haircut swearing he's her friend and having his memories. Em travels with him. Ben and Polly are skeptical and accuse her of replacing him so soon until he says something only John would know.
Don't know what else to say except her relationship with the Master can be summed up by the two of them initially being friends (agreeing non intervention is bullshit) but growing apart because his ideas of intervention would result in mass destruction. Their vibe is as such that mutiple people thing that they are divorced. He also is weirdly obsessed with and keeps trying to steal John in like a "divorced dad trying to turn the kids against the mom and get full custody" way. She flat out hated the Rani before and hates her even more when she attempts to experiment on John (she got to him before she could do much but holy shit). And I haven't pinned down her relationship with Romana, but Romana is exasperated by her but for different reasons than the Doctor.
Marion's ideal go to outfit is loose pants and a comfortable sweater with boots in colder weather. Perhaps with an overcoat. Her go to outfit in warmer weather is linen pants and a button-up or t-shirt. She also prefers suits over dresses.
Her favorite cake flavor is chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream icing. She's not really specific about types of cakes, but she doesn't particularly care for carrot or yellow.
Marion would be most happy to receive trinkets and things that the giver claims "reminded them of her". She herself is the kind of gift giver to passively make notes of things that people enjoy and their interests and then when she comes across something she thinks they might enjoy, she'll get it for them if she can.
fun behind the scenes of a set up to a plan that hasn't been relevant since I published chapter like, three (back when chapter two was chapters two and three before I went back and combined them. I don't think any of you who are following me have been following the story enough to remember that except for maybe ihf)
the originally answer to "What's Marion’s deal" was during the events of Name of the Doctor she ends up in a Time Loop and the version of Marion you see isn't her first go around it.
Anyway, a really dumb way I forshadowed this that in hindsight there's ZERO shot would make sense to anyone but me was that chapter one featured Ten
"what does that have to do with anything?"
If you've read a lot of Time Jumper fics (and let's face it, if Celery is the first Time Jumper fic any of you have read that would genuinely shock me) most of the time the first Doctor they meet is Eleven.
So her meeting Ten first would be Foreshadowing that this isn't actually the first.
"Luna that doesn't make sense!"
"Luna that's convoluted"
"Luna what kind of convoluted game theory ass nonsense is that?"
having a Doctor Who OC is so fun because you can literally come up with whatever high-concept backstory you want for them and give them nearly whatever ability you please and literally no one can say shit about it because no matter how bananas your homemade blorbo's background is, it's unlikely to be out of the realm of plausibility. Not just like, by EU standards, but by the standards of stuff that exists in the show that's on TV.
