Always thinking about how Celeste’s explosions are longer and louder if she has Emma watching…her reactions get bigger not out of malice, but simply to make sure she is seen. Emma gives her that but can never calm her down, just wait it out. I am now picturing Emma with her arms wrapped around the waist of a struggling Celeste who’s trying to fight her way out and put another hole in her wall. Being the larger one, Celeste probably has a relatively easy time of freeing herself.

Emma who ends up doing whatever Celeste wants to keep her from going again. Yes, this ends up extending to holding her when she calls at an unreasonable hour. The girl has already had explosions over her refusals before. Emma does not want to wear out her patience. She secretly thinks it’s a bad idea and she knows she’ll be facing a huge meltdown when she has to decline again, but she gives in anyway and hides it.
Introducing Emma Qbit, so named because she is the form both 0 and 1 are controlling her! (A Qbit—short for "quantum bit" and also written qubit—is the basic unit of quantum computing, and unlike classical bits, a Qbit can exist as both 0 and 1. If classical bits are coins with one side labeled 0 and the other labeled 1, Qbits are pool balls that are 1 when their labels face up, 0 when their labels face down, and in a superposition that's both when their labels are sideways.) Qbit doesn't actually exist as her own state. Rather, she's the result of 1's realization that 0 only gives her control so her empathy will give her something to twist. Knowing her kindness will only be distorted, 1 refuses to act when given the opportunity and cries wordlessly at her inability to do anything, and 0 allows it in the hopes that Celeste will interpret it as guilting her.

Every diverging Theo is bound to end up with a concussion at some point. (Starless Sky Theo does it the fastest from running at the basement wall and smashing it forcefully with his head. In general, all of them find the basement and specifically the laundry room a very convenient place to break down in the middle of the night so no one can hear them, and they've all thrown and shattered a glass of water down there once.) They all have to be seen in their respective timelines' hospitals and they're on the floor just rocking back and forth on their hands and knees and wailing for Celeste. It’s so cold and light hurts and they are tired.
Anyway…thinking of 0 who mocks Celeste’s meltdowns by copying them (either after the fact or while they’re happening).
