I have to write a brief narrative describing my relationship with writing and such, and you're one of my favorite writers on Tumblr. It got me wondering what inspired you to start writing?
i’ve gotten this question a few times before. i’m not sure exactly what inspired me to write because i’ve wanted to be a writer since i was 6 years old. i think inspiration is the offspring of admiration. at some point, my kindergarten self read a book that made me want to pick up a crayola marker and scribble my first short story about a girl who finds a dragon egg in her school bathroom (yes, that was my first story).
my parents always read books to me. it could’ve been beatrix potter, or a.a. milne, or c.s. lewis, or even j.r.r. tolkien. in all honesty, though, i think it was a story book about a girl who keeps a pet sea monster in her basement. i have no idea what that book was, but i remember reading it until it fell apart.
