Mountain Peaks Beyond the Evergreens (Black & White) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: For this image, I decided to try out this "Ansel Adams Look" I'd read about in Jason Odell's book on Capture NX2. The idea is to work with the LCH editor, making some adjustments, and then use a Black point and White point before converting to black & white.

It's a Kaleidoscope of Colors Across a Mountainside by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: It's a Kaleidoscope of Colors Across a Mountainside The Aspens have turned yellow with Autumn's arrival The Evergreens remain true to their colors with their greens up a mountainside The Mountains have strips of many colors layered over ages of time The Moon hangs above all with its pale white And the skies are blue complementing all for this Utah setting. Another work of short poetry or prose to complement the image captured with the vibrance of colors across this portion of Mount Timpanogos with the rugged peaks and ridgelines. In composing this image, I wanted to balance the sweeping view looking across the nearby hillsides going up the mountain with the colors of trees and the blue skies with the moon above. In my mind, I didn't want to just in have the top of the image be near the peak off in the distance, I wanted to include some negative space with the blue skies to kind of add that compliment to the colors of the leaves tree leaves and mountainside.

A Parking Lot View of Mountains in Provo by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: On my last trip to Southern Utah to visit the national parks there, I'd stayed at a hotel and woke up to take in mountain views with the sunlight still caught behind the peaks off in the distance to the east. Here I smiled as I took in the view of a similar set of mountain peaks, but the sunlight was coming from my back and the west. Oh, how I missed these mountains! The direction is looking to the east-northeast in Provo, Utah, with Y Mountain being a little to the north of this captured image and view.

What I was trying to capture with this image was the changes across this mountainside of both colors as well as tones. Some areas had reds with a little bit of green from the forest while others had that jagged and layered look across the exposed mountainside. Then other areas were caught in the setting sunlight while leaving shadows across other portions.
