Stockton Week 6, Sunday
The first caravan arrived in Stockton around 2:15 with the last pulling in around 3:15. We were also joined today by our last remaining camper who came via air but was escorted to Stockton by two generous souls from Elk Grove UMC. We immediately set up our living community for the week. We are housed in a large fellowship hall at Central UMC across the street from University of the Pacific. The building mirrors the sanctuary, both of which were built 50 years ago. The architecture is unusual and phenomenal. We'll try to send photos, but you can get some idea of the structure by going to http://cumcstockton.org/weddings/our-facility. We are compensating for the beauty with the heat. It is hot, hot, hot. Did I say hot? We have two huge fans but will close the doors at night to prevent evening wanderers from joining us. Otherwise, there are no safety concerns where we are staying. After playing some games and eating a terrific chili, baked potato and luscious green salad dinner, we learned our new work teams. There are six teams ranging in size from 7 to around 12. The projects include lots of painting, some fence building, a community garden and working on a community home. Everyone is excited, getting along well and having a blast. We are looking forward to our first work day tomorrow. Blessings,
Kathy
