Ceramic - Thistle flower head
This is the purple thistle flower, many flowers within the one flower disc, I used as my model to create a ceramic one 16 times larger.
The finished enlarged ceramic thistle flower disc, 16 inches high, with bracts slid under the openings I made. I used clay slip for the purple and yellow, and green underside of bracts.
As I worked on the thistle, it took several stages. I began making a coiled dome, then added the flowers in a spiral formation.
