Is it common knowledge that Alan Rickman, Alfred Molina and Hugh Laurie all auditioned for the part of Lister in Red Dwarf? They only offered it to Craig after asking him to tell them if Cat was racist and he begged them to play Lister, though he had never acted before. I imagine everyone knows but I heard it for the first time today as Craig Charles (on his BBC Radio 6 Music show today) chatted with Doug Naylor on his 70th birthday about his new kids book and publicly blackmailed the BBC about the movie special for Red Dwarf. Basically, it will be offered to streamers early this year if the BBC don’t pick it up. Two thirds written, it seems. All the cast want to return.
That is good news indeed, we’ll see what the production timeline looks like I feel like I knew there’d been a lot of auditions for Lister and definitely knew Craig Charles hadnt done TV before from a previous special.
