I worked my first 12-hour field day 🫠

I don't mind Terra Core sampling - in fact I like them - but it takes extra time to label every container on top of using a PID. It's specially annoying if the core gets jammed midway, but at least we saw some evaporite, gypsum I think (which I don't ever see at these depths along the Gulf Coast edit: specifically TX Gulf Coastal Plains).

Huge pro about geology: can't bullshit your way through petrology, mapping, and field methods classes with ChatGPT.

It's all pure study, passion, some actual bullshitting, and grit over here. Nesse, Winter, Fossen, Coe, professors verging on emeritus, and TAs are there for you. You will lick that rock outside and decide if it's F or EF sandstone. You will write that code in MATLAB, or dig through dictionary keys to find your dataset. You leave your undergrad with eye strain, color pencil pigment and dirt under your nails, huge calves, a tan, and back pain! And our disabled peers have just as much work and have far more grit than any of us.

This goes to other degrees where AI dependency is a ticket to dropping out or to an inept career. Really gonna give someone a lecturing IRL if I hear they use ChatGPT for their classes.

THEY'RE PUTTING TOGETHER AN OFFER LETTER. I'M GETTING A NEW JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGGG THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT I COULD'VE ASKED FOR!!!!! I hope the pay isn't lower than what I had, and I'll take any benefits over none (part time).

I'm gonna miss some of the work at my current firm but if I don't job hop I'm gonna be stuck at this experience level and part time for who knows how long. I do feel bad for my coworkers because all of this government work got delayed into the current fiscal year.
