Things never went easy for them, or at least, that’s how Riza Hawkeye felt. No matter what mission they were on, it seemed that something, somewhere had to go wrong or at least go poorly. Then again, her life in general seemed to lean that way, so it could just be a bit of bias on her part that led her to thinking that. But regardless of if it was true, or her own biased perspective, things certainly hadn’t gone well for them in this instance.
They were supposed to just do some investigation. Poke around a little, see what information they could gather, and just see if there was anything to the rumors of an alchemist who was working with a group to gather intelligence on the government. Of course, instead of that happening, they had run right into the man, he had recognized them and bolted, and they had pursued. Now the team was racing around warehouses, loading docks, and construction materials in pursuit of the man.
Riza wasn’t sure where most of the men had gotten off to. This man didn’t appear to have any back up at the moment, but he did have traps laid. She had heard Fuery get caught up in one, and she hope the younger man was going to be alright. She had no time to stop, though, not as the colonel raced after the man, and she raced after them both.
The path he was taking was too deliberate, though, for her liking, as if he were heading somewhere specific and not just taking a random path to try to loose them. It made the hairs at the back of her neck prick and her grip on her gun tighten. Even with her bullets and Roy’s flames, he kept heading in a particular direction. She didn’t like it. She liked it even less when he ran into a warehouse, something that he hadn’t done before. Or course the colonel raced right after him, and she followed a “Sir--wait!” a moment too late on her lips.
She raced into the warehouse, only a second or so behind Roy, he only a few seconds behind the suspect. But those seconds were enough time, and as she rushed into the warehouse, blue light crackled to life and arrays suddenly lit up on the columns around building. In a flash, she comprehended what was happening. He had lured them to this building, the one with his trap, and he was going to collapse it on their heads.
But comprehending something and doing something about it were two different things. She tried to put the breaks on, she reached for Roy, yelled at him to get down, and saw the suspect going out a back way before a horrendous screech filled the air, and the build fell down around them. All she had time to do was try to cover her head, for the little good it would do her. It was too late to run or take cover.
Large pieces rained down on them, and Riza could feel them hitting her, smacking her in the back, in the sides, knocking her to the ground, and she curled up as best she could, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Colonel before she felt more debris strike her and the world around her went black.
