Eve Debuts Matter/Thread Smart Thermostat at CES 2026 as Connected Appliances Mature
Eve showed up to CES 2026 with a Matter-over-Thread thermostat that skips the cloud. No subscription, no sign-in-to-continue wall when Wi-Fi drops. On-device touch controls keep working if the router dies.
It's part of a bigger wave. Hisense, IKEA, and Aqara all shipped Matter-certified HVAC and kitchen gear at the same show. Major appliance makers finally hit the cross-ecosystem promise that Matter has been making since 2022.
For California contractors, this is a real story. Title 24 wants demand-response thermostats. IOUs offer rebates in the $75-150 range. A $160 Matter unit with a QR-code commissioning flow drops both barriers at once. Install time goes down. Customer confusion goes down.
The field question: does the standard make DIY too easy? For most jobs, no. Transformer sizing, C-wire runs, and mesh commissioning still need a tech who knows what they're doing. Matter makes the happy path happy. The edge cases still pay the trade.
