GIRL HAUNTS BOY (2024): Dumb but disarmingly sweet fantasy comedy, adapted from the Cesar Vitale YA novel, about a teenage boy named Cole Sanchez (Michael Cimino) who discovers that his new house is haunted by the ghost of a teenage girl named Bea Jenkins (Peyton List), who was hit by a car almost 100 years ago after pocketing a cursed ring during a museum field trip, and who is now visible only to anyone who wears the ring. Reminiscent in both tone and plot of the 1987 romcom MANNEQUIN, it suffers from some lazy scripting, and while Cimino is handsome and can sing (a central part of the plot is Cole and Bea bonding through music), he never manages to make Cole seem anything other than bland. However, the charm of the scenario and List's endearingly sincere performance make up for a lot, and the final scene is touching. CONTAINS LESBIANS? Alas. VERDICT: Very thin but surprisingly pleasant.
