While going through the #archives discovered images from my #radio days back in #90s #cfny #brampton #ontario #canada #deadlyhedley #entertainment (at Los Angeles, California)
I’ve just watched this on Showtime and I recommend everyone to watch this. If you’ve grown up as a kid listening to radio as an only source of new music before the days of internet then you can relate to this film on a more personal level. I grew up in Toronto as a kid and my whole world of music was this station called CFNY 102.1 FM. At the time this was the only station that played non 40 hits and the only source of new music coming in from England. Along with NME magazine and CFNY “The Spirit of Radio” at the time was where I got first introduced to bands like Depeche Mode and The Smiths. I’m not sure if CFNY still operates in Toronto or if it does it’s still the same alternative radio of the generation, but at that time it was a big influence in my music listening. Used to tape Chris Sheppard’s show ‘Club 102’ and listened to it for the whole week picking out music I would buy or order from the local record store where they would order it to UK. This film tells the story of a similar radio station in Long Island NY called WLIR 92.7 which introduced alternative music to America and made a wave of successes for those artists in the States. Great story and a goose bump trip down the memory lane of personal experiences in those days. If you have Showtime definitely go and see it!! #newmusic #daretobedifferent #wlir #cfny #cfny102 #spiritofradio #newwave #radio #fm #alternativeradio
