Speaking of Jinbe’s kinda contradictory speech patterns, the way he refers to Whitebeard is kinda unique and cute too, and hits a similar midpoint between casual and formal. He calls him 白ひげのオヤジさん/shirohige no oyaji-san (Old Man Whitebeard, kind of?).
Oyaji (dad/old man) is the word the Whitebeard Pirates use to refer to Whitebeard, and it’s a really casual/informal word, but Jinbe appends the respectful honorific san to the end of it the same way he does when addressing Luffy as omae. It gives the impression that he refers to Whitebeard as oyaji because he knows that’s his preferred title, but also feels the need to add the san for the sake of respect.
