She mumbled in her sleep as the memories which she had lost almost a year ago made it’s way back to the forefront of her mind in the form of vivid dreams. Who was that woman? What sword it that? Why was everything so familiar? With a rush she gained consciousness and woke up, breathing hard as she tried to hold on to those fragments of memories. But everything she saw began to slip away from her mind swiftly. “What was that?” she mumbled out loud. She was confused -- and even a little scared. She was having these dreams over and over, every night in the past few days. Every night there were more things she could see before everything slipped away. She needed to know what it was, why her mind was playing these tricks on her but she didn’t know how. As her breathing slowed down and came back to normal again, she realized she wasn’t going to be able to go back to sleep. It was almost dawn anyway. “Catra? Catra, are you up?” @warricrwclfrps
Glimmer: Adora, it's not ghost broccoli. It's called cauliflower.
Adora: I know what I saw.
Anger contorted her voice as Catra shouted the demand. It would have sounded far more intimidating had her voice not cracked on the final word.
“Give me one reason why I shouldn’t walk away from you, Catra.”
A flash of something wounded alit Catra’s eyes. Something desperate and angry writhed across her features for an agonized moment. She said nothing.
“I’ve told you, I can’t stay here, not when I know what they do. Not when I know me being in Bright Moon can help protect innocent people. Tell me, why shouldn’t I walk away from you when you won’t choose to walk with me?”
Catra hesitated, opting initially to attempt to close the space between them once more. One hand reached out as she drew near, seemingly torn between taking Adora’s arm and signalling a plea for her to slow down. Once reaching Adora’s side, she managed neither, and the palm dropped uselessly back to her side.
Damn it.
“Argh! Why do you care so much about them?! You’ve known them for days and you trust them more than the life we came from! More than me!” Frustration bled back into Catra’s tone as she fought to catch Adora’s gaze, fixing her with a glare that demanded a proper answer. Already, she could sense how her anger was feeding the fire- driving Adora away.
A low hiss of breath simmered her tone down into something bitter.
“You always were the one who got away with everything.” It was true. Shadow Weaver was quick to find fault in Catra for Adora’s escapades. This was sure to be no different, except the consequences for being held responsible for losing the Captain’s favourite soldier were sure to be significantly worse than all the other punishments Catra had received put together.
“It doesn’t matter if I stay or go. It’s always me that takes the fall for what you do.”
Adora truly wished she could keep her composure but it was getting harder and harder by the second. Her anger, her tears, and the betrayal she felt -- all of it was fighting to leave her, and a part of her wanted to lay herself down bare for the other to see, to show her just how much she was hurting her.
“It doesn’t matter!” she said shrilly, as tears fell from her eyes and she furiously wiped them away. The words had slipped through her lips before she could stop them, frustrated with herself that she had let herself hope when the other stepped towards her, for just a fraction of a second that perhaps she would listen to her. But she ended up accusing her of trusting her friends in Bright Moon more than she trusted Catra. Did she even know her at all?
She hoped that she would change her mind, understand where Adora was coming from and be by her side. That was all Adora wanted. For Catra to be with her, whatever else was going on, it should not have separated them and yet it had. She had pledged her loyalty to the Queen of Bright Moon. But a part of her loyalty always remained with Catra. She had only pledged herself as She ra after all. As Adora, there was little she wanted more than she wanted Catra. With her. By her side. She had always thought of her as the only constant in her life but perhaps she had been wrong. She was only coming back to her over and over to be faced with nothing but disappointment.
“It doesn’t matter if I care about them! If I trust them!” she continued on in anger. “Because it just boils down to the fact that you just don’t care about me! Not enough to listen to reason!”
Guilt swirled through her when the other claimed that Adora got away with everything. She was not wrong at all. Adora had always tried her best to make Shadow Weaver see that Catra was just as good as her, but she never succeeded. Neither did she understand why the woman hated Catra so much. She was scared to even think about what Shdow Weaver was doing to her now, and it made her anger melt away and be replaced with worry.
“Catra.” a soft whisper left her lips as she stepped closer to take her hand in hers. “I don’t want you taking the fall me. I want you to come with me. If I take you to Bright Moon, Glimmer and Bow will understand. They’ll let you stay like they let me. Just.. come with me. We can leave all of this behind. Please. I am begging you, Catra.” She looked at her hopefully, her hand holding hers a little tighter as she waited for the other’s response, praying that she would go with her and everything could be right again. And more importantly, Catra could be safe away from the wrath of Shadow Weaver and Hordak. @wicked-wildcat
Catra had enjoyed the unfolding events far more when Adora was terrorizing both people and inanimate objects indiscriminately with the sword. This? Well, this was just uncomfortable to watch.
Catra flinched as Adora flung herself in an ungainly manner into her arms. She caught her without thinking. It hadn’t even seemed like an option to let her fall into an ungraceful heap onto the floor. Would a single swipe to peel her off be justified? Catra’s eyes narrowed for a moment, contemplating an escape before Adora slurred more words from where she was teetering dangerously off-balance.
“You know how you used to curl up in my bed when we were cadets? It’s my turn now. Stop trying to pull away! I won’t let you go.”
“Get off me!” The retort was a little stunted and lacking in anger for Catra’s usual fashion, however the discomfort was palpable. Flickers of her goofy old friend were rearing their head, stirring both a sense of familiarity and confusion in Catra at how to address the sudden closeness. A hint of colour entered her cheeks at the recounted memory. It seemed years behind them now.
“Adora—” She wasn’t sure why she was trying to get through to the delirious person plastered against her in a smug heap. Adora didn’t seem to be listening, or capable of it to much of a degree. At a clumsy movement of feet, a sharp pain came from the tip of Catra’s tail, causing her fur to fan out into a spiked cloud as a pained squeak left her mouth. What hands had been holding Adora up promptly abandoned their post in favour of smoothing down the end of her trodden tail.
The momentary break was enough for Catra to scramble to place some much-desired distance back between the two. She didn’t like how Adora was looking at her; like the whole charade was some sort of game. Pouting, she folded her arms.
“Watch where you’re going.”
Adora was feeling free. Content. There was simply no other way to describe how her mind was in absolute bliss. She had stopped worrying about anything and everything -- right now all she felt was a rare sense of peace which she didn’t think she could ever have. She didn’t feel the need to be the person who followed every rule and made everything her responsibility. She was behaving weird as hell to Catra, to everyone else, but she barely even realized it -- she was feeling light and happy, and for once, she didn’t care about take charge and being in control of the situation.
Adora stumbled as the other seemed to let go of her to try and put as much distance between them as possible. “Hey! Not fair!” she pouted as she watched the other, her eyes for a moment focusing on her face, cheeks specifically, before a laugh left her lips. “Are you blushing, Catra?” she mused and stepped closer to the other. It Catra was uncomfortable about how she behaved, Adora simply didn't see it.
“You are so mean.” she said with another pout. “Where’s Scorpia? She’s nicer to me. Even with those scary pincers.” She began to mimic her pincers with her hands before peals of laughter left her lips. “She has a crush on you.” she divulged to the other, perhaps at a normal time she would not have said it, she might even have felt a small sense of jealousy when she spoke of Scorpia but now she couldn't bring herself to worry about it. “Did you know? Do you like her?”
Humming to herself, she wandered aimlessly around and despite Catra’s warning, she ran right into a pillar before falling to the ground. “I think I am dying.” she said dazedly, gazing up at the ceiling. “Catra? Catra! Do you think I am am going die from hitting my head? I hit my head pretty hard just now.” @wicked-wildcat
"Just - stay over there. Don't come any closer." ((@wicked-wildcat))
“But I want to come closer!” Adora whined loudly. The data disk had corrupted She-ra, but now that Adora didn’t have the sword on her any longer, she was not destroying everything in her path -- but she had turned into a rather intoxicated version of herself. Not that she realized it as she threw herself on Catra despite the other asking her to stay back and give her some space. “Come on, Catra, I am cold!” she sang, her words slurring together, as she snuggled closer to her. “You know how you used to curl up in my bed when we were cadets? It’s my turn now.” She sounded proud of herself that she came up with a reason as to why Catra should give her what she wanted, but pouted on seeing the other still not listening to her. “Stop trying to pull away!” she whined, holding on tighter to the other. “I won’t let you go.” @wicked-wildcat
"Don't walk away from me!" ((@wicked-wildcat))
Adora stopped in her tracks when she heard Catra speak, turning back to her with tears glistening in her eyes. “Give me one reason why I shouldn’t walk away from you, Catra.” Her voice cracked as she spoke, waiting for the other to reply. It was beyond her comprehension how much she loved Catra but it astounded her how rigid she could be. She was literally begging her to go with her, come to the right side, be the good person she knew she can be and yet all she got in return was her anger and nothing else. “I’ve told you, I can’t stay here, not when I know what they do. Not when I know me being in Bright Moon can help protect innocent people. Tell me, why shouldn’t I walk away from you when you won’t choose to walk with me?” @wicked-wildcat
