Bloodlands: Fantasy Love Realm
Back when Anya was in school, books like Dracula were strictly banned. Government policy forbid any discussion surrounding false vampire mythology, let alone the romanticization them. Humans were to know the facts about what vampires are and, in extreme cases, how to kill them. It made sense. You couldn’t have kids mixing up coffin-sleeping aristocratic bloodsuckers from reality: vampires are dangerous and crude.
If anyone got the false impression that vampires were just pretty faces desperate for love, Balveria would seem less like a cage to keep vampires away from humans and more like some fantasy love realm. God forbid some ditsy school girl gets into a fight with her parents and goes running across the border with high hopes for adventure only to find death instead.
Yet, Alek helped her again and again; It became impossible to doubt him. He seemed so unlike the horror stories Anya heard about vampires, and she was desperately trying to keep him at arm’s length. She had to remember his nature. He was a vampire. A violent monster. An inherent killer...
Anya glanced at Alek sitting next to her, with his long eyelashes and bashful posture, suddenly grateful she never picked up Bram Stoker. She could barely imagine falling any deeper into this ‘fantasy love realm’ than she already was. Anya noted how his blonde hair was a little too long on his forehead, and how it started to curl at the ends. Quickly, she looked away and decided she was thoroughly fucked.
