🍻 “ what made you this way ?” (mo)
Shit. That was a loaded question.
Given the unpleasant combination of a limited understanding of one another’s timelines and a tendency to become both suspicious and frustrated with one another, it was difficult for Mo and Jasper to bond, per se. While Mo had expressed on more than one occasion that it was just fine for things to stay that way, she was admittedly more curious than she let on about her man-from-the-past houseguest. It was a scientific curiosity, anyway. Still, it was difficult for them to get through much of anything without one or both growing irritated -- and everything seemed to go over a little smoother when there was alcohol involved.
After a couple of drinks, she’d devised an exchange: one question for one question, with lots of drinking in between. She figured they’d just keep asking until one of them passed out or needed to be hospitalized. Mo had gone into it thinking it would be more questions like how does the internet work. She hadn’t been anticipating the existential bullshit.
She stared at Jasper for a long moment, wondering why she shouldn’t just tell the truth. What did it matter to him what the truth was, anyway? I’m a product of a shitty divorce, my dad sucked, I spent my childhood competing against everyone and myself for everything, my mom told me I peaked when I was still a kid -- and the research backs her up!
Her lips parted, and she considered letting any and all of it spill out -- but opted instead for the coward’s way out, and threw a pillow from her couch at him. “What a shitty question,” she slurred, reaching for a bottle to refill her drink, “I veto that!”
