We got you| Alexandria & Bethany & Kyle + Violent Crimes team
Thirty-two hours. They were going on thirty-two hours with Nate missing. Everyone in the unit was working around the clock to piece together where her brother might be, they knew who had him, but so far they weren't having a lot of luck finding him. Everyone's emotions were off the wall, and the district was a stressful place at the moment. Even with all the stress Lexie didn't leave the district. She didn't sleep. She had been sleeping when her brother went missing, and now she didn't want to miss a moment of this. The young girl couldn't miss any new information. Lexie was going through the mail at her desk when she came across a small package addressed to her. She thought it was odd, she didn't know anyone outside of the police station, outside of the unit really. A horrible feeling built up in her stomach as she opened the package to a DVD. The team was reconvening in the garage, and she knew she had a few moments. Hesitantly she slipped the DVD into her lap top, hitting play on the video that popped up. The moment the video started to play she wished she hadn't looked at the video at all. All she heard was her brother cry out, and it made her sick to her stomach. Nathaniel was being tortured.
It seemed as if they were no farther in locating Nathaniel than in the first few hours he went missing. Kyle was frustrated beyond belief. And he was one of the few people who knew just how D'Anthony worked. A sigh escaped his lips as he banged his fist against the table. Taking a moment to himself, he turned to check on Lexie. Yes, he was worried about the girl but the more Kyle focused on rescuing Nate, the less he'd worry about her. He noticed she seemed to be watching something intently. Curiously, Kyle joined Lexie at her desk and gulped loudly. "GUYS, SOMEONE LEFT US A VIDEO OF NATE BEING TORTURED."
Lexie didn't notice Kyle's footsteps as he came up behind her, she couldn't hear anything but her brother on the video. She had never seen him hurt. Lexie had seen her brother twice before, blood on his clothes, or jacket, or hands after coming back from a call but she had never seen her brother as the one suffering. Everyone's heads looked towards the upstairs as they heard Kyle call out. Bethany's eyes widened as she and the rest of the unit raced up the stairs towards bullpen. The detective's mouth fell open as she could hear the voices on the video, Nate's torture. She made her way to Kyle and Lexie, finally facing the laptop screen. For a few moments Bethany couldn't take her eyes off the screen, she couldn't breathe as she saw what D'Anthony was doing to Nathaniel. Bethany went to speak, but remained silent as she reached for the envelope. "Guy's it's address to Lex. To here."
As a cop, Kyle had seen so much death, torture and pain. He's seen bodies that were burned to a crisp, corpses completely dismembered and some dead bodies were so horrific, the rookie couldn't even begin to relive those memories. But what D'Anthony Rodriguez was doing to Kyle's beloved mentor made him want to puke his guts outs. When they first started hunting Rodriguez, they thought he was just a common drug lord who sent his goons out to simply kill people who wronged him. Apparently, Kyle and his team didn't realize just how dark this man was. Nate was chained up, dangling in the middle of the room sans a shirt. Blood was dripping down his face and chest. The cop looked exhausted, like he hadn't slept in days. He was pale, as thing as a rail and had multiple, deep cuts over his body along with some burn marks. Nathaniel's hair looked wet and matted, almost as if he'd been doused in ice cold water. The man was shivering, but that wasn't even the worst part. Kyle squinted his eyes at the screen, trying to make out something that was crawling all over Nate's body. They looked like like bugs..maggots. Kyle couldn't take it anymore. He needed to look away, to protect Lexie from this grotesque torture. But just has he was shift his head, Watson noticed something odd in the background. It wasn't much to go by but Kyle had a hunch. "Guys, pause it, I think I know where Nate is.
Bethany immediately reached forward as the younger Abel stayed frozen in her spot. She paused the computer, looking to Kyle for what he was looking for. She zoomed into where he was pointing, but she didn't understand what he saw. It was obvious that the object had a lot of meaning to Kyle. "Tell us what we're looking at Watson." She asked confused. Lexie kept her eyes on the screen, even though it was paused all she could think about was her brother.
Kyle sighed, trying to stop himself from looking at Nate's bruised and broken figure."When Nate and I were first looking for D'Anthony, he had multiple properties in his name. One of which was the house he raised his son Darius in. Even though it's stripped bare, I recognize the frame in the background, the same frame that holds a picture of the Rodriguez family."
The detective's eyes grew large as Nathaniel's partner spoke. This video had been sent to Lexie to hurt her, to try to break her like D'Anthony had been broken when he was sent to prison but it turned out to be the most helpful thing in the entire investigation. Bethany reached forward, hitting Kyle in the arm lightly. "Good job." She spoke honestly, ready to get her gear on. "Gear up guys." Voyt called out. As everyone made their way to the garage Lexie finally moved, she followed after them not really knowing if she was going or not. As Bethany finished strapping on her vest, she watched Lexie standing off to the side, the young girl seemed to still be in a state of shock. Bethany took a glance over Voyt's way and the moment their eyes met, she knew all she had to do was nod. The detective made her way to Lexie with a vest in hand, quickly she shuffled Lexie into the car with Kyle and herself.
Kyle nodded stoically. He could relax once they saved Nate. For now, he followed the group, gearing up immediately. While he put on his own vest, he was relieved to see Lexie follow him and Beth into the van. If there was one person Nathaniel definitely needed to see when he got out, it was his sister. The journey to D'Anthony's old house was a long, silent trip, everyone to worried and stressed to talk. It was time to save one of their own.
---
Finally the abandoned house came into view, the entire ride had been silent. Lexie was shaking, all she wanted was her brother to be okay. She needed him to be. Once the van stopped, she watched as each member exited in formation. The young girl breathed deeply, trying to stay calm and in the van as they made their way towards the house. She nodded when Bethany told her to stay put into she got the all clear. Bethany held her gun as she made her way towards the house with the rest of the unit, she followed shortly behind Kyle. They all moved silently, trying not to alert D'Anthony until they made their way inside the house. Once at the door Bethany nodded to Kyle, keeping her eyes on the door with her gun in position, ready to fire.
Kyle nodded back at Beth, slamming his shoulder against the thin, wooden door and breaking it off of it's hinges. He's met with the sight of D'Anthony, holding a knife up to Nate's throat, the cop still dangling in the middle of the room. "It's over D'Anthony, put down the knife and let the cop go." D'Anthony only glared at Kyle, a vicious smirk growing on his face. "I don't think so. Nathaniel here isn't going to make it out..." The scumbag didn't get a chance to finish his sentence, as a bullet entered his head, courteously of Kyle.
The moment she heard the gunshot go off in the room, Bethany moved in. As the rest of the unit cleared the surrounding rooms to make sure there was no surprises, Bethany moved in towards Nathaniel. "Nate, hey stay with us okay? We got you." She assured him. "We got you." Once Voyt and Kyle were around Nate, the young detective released the chains that were holding Nathaniel in place. Immediately she radioed for an ambulance.
There was a shot. Lexie tried to stay back, and she tried to do what Bethany had told her but the second she heard the gunshot she leaped from the van, running towards the house. She made it inside, but was stopped quickly. Although she couldn't make it to him, she could clearly see her brother.
Kyle hadn’t fired his gun many times in his career. Not out on the job anyway, the rookie made weekly trips to the firing range. But this was satisfying. He was glad he shot D'Anthony. Taking a life wasn't something to be proud of but he did it for Nate and he'd do it again if the situation presented itself. Quickly gaining his composure, Kyle helped unchain Nate and safely get him outside to freedom.
Lexie stood out of the way as she watched them bring her brother outside of the house. She looked back into the room he had been confined to quickly, only glancing at the dead body on the floor for a second. She kept her eyes away, focusing on her brother being safe. Lexie made her way outside with everyone else. Only moments ago it had just been them on the streets but as she stepped out of the house she saw different cop cars all over the streets, and an ambulance waiting to take her brother to the hospital. Lexie rushed over to the ambulance. As she was getting into the ambulance with her brother her eyes met Kyle's. He had kept his promise. They brought him back. "Thank you.."
The rookie cop let his guard down for the split-test second, something he did often around the younger Abel. "I'd do anything for you and your brother." He said softly, watching the siblings enter the ambulance.
Lexie watched as the paramedic worked on her brother, she bit her lip quickly jumping out for a moment. The paramedic scolded her, they needed to be leaving. Once out of the ambulance the young girl made her way to Kyle. They had never been public before, but she didn't care. She quickly kissed him, a tiny smile on her face. Just as quickly as she kissed him, she made her way back into the ambulance as she paramedic shouted they were leaving.
Shock couldn't even begin to describe what Kyle was feeling. She kissed him. Lexie kissed him in public. For the first time that day, he smiled. Things might just be okay after all for the rookie.
Lexie clutched her brother's hand the entire drive to the hospital, and the moment they unloaded him from the ambulance straight into the emergency room she followed closely behind. Lexie followed, and tried to stay as close to her brother as she possibly could until finally a nurse forced her to the waiting room to wait until the doctors could check Nate's injuries. The girl groaned while impatiently waiting for an update. All she wanted was to see her brother, see him open his eyes. Even though she had seen him, held his hand even, it was like her mind wasn't completely convinced that he would be okay.
