I feel like in a normal narrative it would be a huge deal… but when the plot is designed to kick the main character until they are a sopping wet paper bag of a man, comas slip the mind.

ETA: You’re not crazy, Sydney being in a coma isn’t explicitly stated but he was in the hospital with no memory for a few months while Jedidiah figured things out, back when Jeddie thought “he’d never see Sydney again”
