Perimeter of the grounds has hidden sensors so no chance of surprise visitors for either of us.” He clicked the beat-up monitors on. “You can watch all the security monitors or TV I guess...But we only get like 5 channels.” He handed her the remote. “Stay as long as you like... I only have three rules: One, no trying to fight me. Two, if I’m in my lab downstairs and you need me, knock first. Three, don’t trash the place. It’s not much,but it’s mine. And this isn’t a rule...you’re free to leave whenever you want. But I’d appreciate it if you said good-bye. Plus, then I can let the security systems know it’s just me.Fair?”

At that, Laura flung herself off the bed only to slam into the wall. 

“Fuck!” The world was spinning. Nope, bad idea. She pinched the bridge of her nose as if that’d somehow help. “Who are you?! I’m fine! I’m fine. Jus’ lemme… fucking… Fuck.” The pinching wasn’t helping. Laura stumbled around with a groan. “Where did I pass out?”

Bruce ran a hand through his grey hair. “Slow down. You can still give yourself a concussion even if you do heal.”

He pushed a bowl of hot soup towards her. “I ask myself who I am a lot actually. Bruce, is fine, if you need to call me something.”

He gestured to the chair across from him. “Sit. Slow down. We’ll get to that. There were people after you. Didn’t look like you needed my help but I think one of them managed to stick you with a needle. That’s where you passed out.”

He watched the bodies squirm right before another layer of flesh was added, sealing it up firmly.

Hector could still make out hands pressing up against the thick skin.

“That’s lovely, Laura.”

It was screaming. It was in pain the moment his magic touched it and pulled at it. It was not a painless nor fast procedure, for it fought him tooth and nail to keep its form, but it lost, just like the rest. 

The devil soul was then called up, infusing itself with the blue flames around his hammer and it took screamed when it made contact. The first time had made him freeze completely, cutting the formation short and the soul escaped.

Now, all he can do is force it in as fast as he could and seal it within its new prison. This one had mouths, too many, and lanky sick limbs that carried it off the table and onto the blood soaked floor in agony.

“...Brilliant...” He repeated as he watched the new creature get accustomed to its body. His stomach twisted and his heart sank. “Thank you for the compliment.”

“So Johnson’s out? Why can’t we just switch in Dacus for this one?” Rachel sucked in her cheeks, seconds away from an eye-roll as screams resounded from the other end. Jamison had a way of inducing migraines in his fellow guild members, probably due in part to his daily night club induced hearing loss, but he’d been playing WoW for longer than she’d inhabited this earth, so she put up with it. “ I’ll get on finding us a substitute, nerd,” she said, re-positioning herself against the white marble of her porch step, “right after this disaster brunch closes. Twenty bucks says in ends with my body in flames, but uh...bye.” She snapped her phone shut with characteristic abruptness, then took a puff of her cigar. After, the sound of thrown glass cinched her eyes, and as she opened them, a flash of red struck her vision, the newcomer which it belonged to acknowledged with a catlike grin. “D’Altuin. We’ve got to stop meeting like this.” Rachel’s voice was dry and verging on toneless, but she punctuated it with just enough warmth to be telling. She made room for Laura to sit, then clinked a rum bottle in front of her. “I found this half empty in my hiding bush. As for who left it, my bet’s on Freddy, but given this crowd? It could be anyone. My goal’s to pass out here before anyone finds the nerve to throw a drink at me, so...offer’s open.”
