He bit his lip and cleared his throat as he felt his eyes threatening to brim with tears. He directed a smile of appreciation up to her. He didn’t imagine apologizing came easy and he appreciated the effort.

“It actually wasn’t my first time,” he laughed nervously. “But...neither trip was fun.” It was a shame really. This place had been rather sullied for him and it was part of his heritage. Even Pearl had always wanted him to see it. “It’s kind of ruined the whole experience for me...but I know you didn’t mean that.”

Poor Baby | If I Could Begin to Be

Pearl had been out dancing all night long with her new lover, and had come home on cloud nine. She was in a great, loving mood and wanted to share it with someone. About seven, she waltzed in, and heard the shower running. Oh good! Steven was already up. She thought she’d make some breakfast for the little lad. A good day always starts with a hearty breakfast, or so she’d heard. So, without further adieu, she whipped up some eggs, some bacon, and some toast, with cranberry muffins baking for later. Food ready, she placed it in the microwave to keep it insulated until her boy was done cleaning up, and put her elbows on the counter, gazing wistfully into space. When Steven emerged, it brought her out of her reverie, “Oh, Steven! I made you breakfast~ Did you sleep well?” However, upon further inspection, her brow creased, “Steven? Are you alright?”

Jasper and Amethyst had shown him her little shack in the rougher Rockies a few days ago. Heavily forested area, remote except for hard core hikers who rarely ever made it this far would provide her with just enough social interaction if she decided to hole up here-- however wouldn’t be common enough to distress her. Today he was gonna head up there and spend some quality one-on-one time with her. He brought basic supplies like pyjamas and soap and such. Jasper didn’t have much need for indoor plumbing so he’d need to rough it, like a real No-Home boy! Well, his fascination with that life had died down since he and Amethyst took that trip to the Kindergarten, but this time he had food! Enough for he and Jasper to share! and No raccoons! and it was gonna be great. They were gonna have a great time. The boy exited the warp pad and used his super cool floating/jumping powers to leap up the massive forested crags protecting her abode. Floating was a wonderful feeling, and he tried to do it whenever appropriate-- that would help with his control as well. When he finally reached the manufactured clearing, he had to lean against a tree and catch his breath. Maybe he just took it too fast, but it seemed like he’d done that a lot easier before. A few seconds and he was back to normal, and heading towards his favorite buff chappy puff. “Heyy Jasper!”

Steven nervously twiddled with his hands as he eyed the painting he had made for Garnet. It was supposed to be Ruby and Sapphire but he honestly didn’t see them enough to get a perfect reference.

“I think I made her hair too fluffy...” Steven hummed in disappointment. A shadow fell over the paper and he yelped as he covered it. “Garnet!”

“Why don’t you talk to each other?” Five year old Steven stood on his tip toes to look over the counter where his forlorn Mother and new, rainbow colored member of the Crystal Gems stood.

“Why don’t you talk to each other, just give it a try!” He grunted as he tried to pull his tiny chubby body up onto the counter. “Why don’t you talk about what happened? I know you’re trying to avoid it….but I don’t know why.”

(let’s be real, this is perfect for Jaspis but we got that going on lol)

Out of all the things Steven’s seen, this was the most unreal. He would’ve assumed this was his mom, but he was Rose now. And all the other Rose Quartzes were bubbled! So how was this possible. Steven had all these questions to ask, but ironically, he was left speechless.
