ChaChaWan (Sheung Wan, Hong Kong)
My mom and I were craving Thai one day and so I looked up "Best Thai Restaurants in Hong Kong" and ChaChaWan (Hong Kong's first Isaan Thai restaurant) came up!
We arrived around 12:30pm and were able to snag a spot at the end of the bar overseeing the kitchen. Unless you're with a larger group, I highly recommend sitting at the bar so that you can watch the chefs put together each of the dishes!
ChaChaWan offers the perfect lunch-set (two dishes + thai sticky rice or steamed jasmine rice + tea or coffee) for HKD $128. We ordered Som Dtum (green papaya salad), Gai Tort (fried chicken), Larp Moo (mixed salad with iceberg lettuce), Kanom Dtom (coconut rice dumplings) and a side Kai Dow (fried egg for an extra HKD $8).
We ended lunch with the Kanom Dtom, coconut rice balls sprinkled with sesame seeds, which was beyond amazing! HKD $60
The dinner menu offers an even wider array of dishes. We tried our best to order only new dishes we had seen other people try the last time we were there: Gai Yung (24-hour marinated chicken thighs) HKD $158 and Park Poong Fai Mai Dang (stir fried morning glory) HKD $68.
We were so full we ended up taking some of the food home, including the Khao Pad (fried rice with generous chunks of crab meat), which I ate for breakfast the next day. HKD $132
Although we were craving the coconut rice balls, we decided to give the Roti Gluay (crispy thai banana pancake) a try and we were not disappointed! HKD $60
If the choice was mine, I would eat at ChaChaWan every day.
