Step Up fans! Help me with something?
So I must warn everyone that I am a Step Up beginner. I’m new to the whole franchise so if I am wrong about anything that I say in this post please be gentle on me when correcting.
Okay, so I started kind of backwards when watching this movie series. I started with the 5th installment (Step Up: All In) then the 4th (Step Up Revolution) then the 3rd (Step Up 3D) and so on and so on.
When I finished the series something didn’t sit right with me. In the 3rd you’re introduced to a character named Jason (played by the INCREDIBLE Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss) whose a electrical extraordinaire/dancer. He lives in New York with a handful of other great dancers who include The Santiago twins (played by Facundo and Martin Lombard) and Vladd (played by Chadd Smith). You guys know this so I don’t really have to go into much detail, but yeah they’re basically like a family. They live together. They dance together (also dancing with other characters from the 1st and 2nd movies such as Kido and Hair)
Alright so with that being said now we go on to the 4th movie. You are again introduced to the same character, Jason, who they let you know now that he moved from New York to Miami. From the crew The Pirates to The Mob. Now he’s with that crew and he’s dancing with them and having more family love. Right so then at the end dance scene they bring more people from the previous movies to dance with them (such as Vladd, Moose and Kido)
So you’d think from all of that they’d be all close with each other. A big dancing family, right?
Okay 5th movie. Sean and The Mob are in LA and business sucks for them right now so The Mob leaves to go back to Miami, but Sean stays back because of course he’s stubborn and driven. He then discovers a dancing competition set in Las Vegas for a 3 year show spot at Caesar’s Palace. So he asks for the help of Moose (played by Adam Sevani) to put a crew together which includes pretty much everyone from the previous movies (Moose, Kido, The Santiago Twins and Hair)
Now that Sean has his crew and his in Vegas, he runs into The Mob who have also entered into the competition. Drama, right? Right!
What bothered me so much about this and what the reason for this long post is that when these two groups met why did they act as if they had just met for the first time? When in actuality half of the LIVED together for who knows how long and danced with each other NUMEROUS times. Like why was there no “Hey, long time, no see”, “How are you doing?”, “Great to see you!”? No, we get a scoff from Jason who laughs when Sean claims that his new crew is ‘the best of the best’. Like dude! You lived and danced with these people! They were your family. How can you have no recognition of these people? And the same goes for Moose and everyone else who did the same thing. Like where is the love people?!
I know this shouldn’t be something that is a big deal, but I just couldn’t let it go. It feels like bad character development to me. I asked my friend the same thing. He said that maybe it was because of different writers but I don’t know. If anyone has anything else to add please feel free. I want to know everyone else’s opinion on this.
Thanks for reading!
