Hi there! I'm wondering if there is any good ghost type starters to take care of? I've got a Gengar, but he was given to me as a present, and I want to take care of one from the start. Also, is there anything to help my Gengar with his anxiety?
That depends on you, I think! The Gastly line is often saved for people who know a bit more about Pokemon, but then again, most Ghost Pokemon are. Personally, if someone is willing to put in the effort, I don’t see why their first Pokemon couldn’t be a Gastly, or even something only for ‘experienced’ trainers, like a rare Roselia.
But that’s beside the point, sorry. You said you were looking for decent Ghost Type starting Pokemon to raise along with your Gengar, right?
Right away my mind goes to the Drifloon line. They’re relatively gentle and don’t need much extra handling, though obviously you still have to train them. Rotom are also a decent start; Almost everyone has one now with RotomPhones and the like anyways!
But you said you wanted to try caring for one from the start, and have already gotten a Gengar! So I think we can try something that’s a bit more difficult, no?
Litwick is a good middle ground, I think, as well as Phantump, or Pumpkaboo. They all are rather childish and will allow you to really understand young Ghost-Type Pokemon’s needs, without making it unnecessarily difficult on you. They’re still mischievous as most Ghost Type Pokemon, but tend to have a bit softer personalities, meaning you’ll likely have to be rather gentle with them, like you may a child.
Sinistea is also a fun one, if you like doing calmer activities with your Pokemon. Or, if you prefer something more active, the Dreepy line may be more your type!
As for anxiety, that really depends on what your Gengar is anxious over! If its general anxiety, I’d look into finding a local Ghost Trainer who may be able to help evaluate what’s going on! Some Pokemon are just a bit more Nervous than others, while some may need medication due to their anxiety. And then others are anxious because of something in their life. A good Specialized Trainer will be able to help you figure out what’s going on and what the next course of action should be! Just be careful; there are scam artists out there who will act like they fixed the issue while secretly making it worse, and this can cause your Pokemon to change into resenting you, or even become ‘Shadow Pokemon’ if it gets bad enough. So definitely vet whoever you ask to help you, and don’t do anything you’re not sure about without a second or even third opinion!
