craft project log
inspiration: the chatelaine
this is kinda of cheesy but when my girlfriend and I had our first video chat I drank a weird apple juice soda on cam and the bottle cap had a message on it that I felt was a weird sign. I bought the apple juice soda and this happened in May and I kept that bottle cap this entire time hoping to one day be able to make something for her. Inspiration decided to finally strike on Valentine’s Day!
I started with learning to make a 4 in 1 spiral chain from YouTube. I used just jump rings and wire I preemptively had.
then I found this fidget keychain which is the only keychain I happened to have. I attached the spiral chain along the border of the bottle cap because it’s sharp. I poked holes in the bottle cap with a thumb tack and attached it with jump rings. I felt it was a little lackluster so I added another spiral chain to it.
my goal with this is to add more chains and make holsters for whatever she may want to carry on it real chatelaine style.
What's on My Work Table: New Ceramic Necklaces
I love ceramics. I love beads. I love making beads. I love making chains. I am currently working on combining my porcelain beads and components with my handmade chains to make necklaces that are different from the ceramic jewelry I see everywhere else. The way I work is to make a ton of components, spread them out, and wait until they start talking to me. I don’t glaze these beads. I color them…

The Black Country Living Museum
Location: The Black Country Living Museum.
Item: The Limelight Cinema + Projector
How old is it? The Limelight Cinema has stood since 1921 and portrays the atmosphere of the Black Country: small, rough and open, whilst also showing the work of enthusiastic, self-taught filmmakers.
Where did it come from? Its original location was Harts Hill, Brierly Hill, where it had been up and abandoned and over the years, had become hidden in tall grass. However, a company wanted to demolish the old buildings there to create a factory. A woman called the Museum to see if any of them would be useful and soon enough, the building was taken down brick by brick to be moved into the Black Country Living Museum.
How was it made? The cinema room was fitted with a Dreadnought Bioscope and a 1912 Ernemann Bioscope, the light source for the projector being the old-fashioned method of an electric arc light. In addition, across the Limelight Cinema a workshop which contained two gas engines which was used to generate its power.
What has it been used for? The building can seat up to 103 people on the benches wooden and 18 padded, tin up chairs. The Limelight Cinema was used to show short films to the public, like now, the cinema shows old classics, such as: Charlie Chaplin, Laurel & Hardy and Harold Lloyd.
Who owned it? The building was family run: Mr Revil being the owner and operated the projector, whilst his nephew, Leslie Ball, assisted him. The wife, Mrs Revil, sold the tuppence ha’penny and five-penny tickets from a small wooden booth, whilst the daughter, Violet Revil, would play music from a wind-up gramophone to add music to accompany the silent that were played.
Extra trivia?
Now in the modern day, some changes were made to the Limelight Cinema as some things were too damaged to use again, such as the screen and the padded chairs were stuff with horse hair, which attracted fleas. So those have been replaced with a new screen and chairs in better condition.
