Over the last few months, I have had the utter delight and joy to run an event we dubbed the Stony Art Chain Relay. Five chains of artists were formed, the first artist designed a version of Steve and Tony from their imagination, then each art piece was passed to the next artist in the chain to re-draw, re-imagine, or re-design that piece however they wanted, while keeping the core of the character design itself. I can’t believe (actually I can, because Stony artists are amazing) how creative and gorgeous and inspiring and incredible the results are!!
I’ll be making five posts with all six art pieces from a single chain in each one, so you can see the progression. Please visit the artists’ pages and check out their other gorgeous work!

The Words to go Along!
Photograph 1: Camouflage by Souvik
A very clever picture by Souvik, first spotted on his flickr photostream. A few discerning people correctly guessed the word as “camouflage” but admit it, most of you were stumped.
Photograph 2: Camouflage by Espera
At first glance, Espera saw nothing in Souvik’s photo. Then, a CRAB! And it was very well 'camouflaged'. So she wanted to do a photo, where she could camouflage a person to the point of one not noticing her at first glance, with the least props. It seemed like a good photo challenge to her, and we’re happy to say she rose up quite well to it.
Photograph 3: Camouflage by Nidhi
Nidhi had correctly guessedknew Souvik’s exact word. But Espera’s photo seemed to twist it a little, so Nidhi simply twisted herself till she saw the word in it and executed one of her 576579 camouflage ideas.
Photograph 4: One with Nature by Anmol
A few people were distracted by all the foliage in the previous picture, and Anmol effectively twisted the chain away from camouflages to something quite different.
Photograph 5: Reflection by Rashmi
The outstanding feature from Anmol's picture was a reflection. So it happened that a couple of days before her turn, Rashmi had shot a friend’s wedding. This was taken during her getting ready bit, and this turned out to be the strangest photo from the batch that seemed to fit for this turn. Well done, Rashmi!
Photograph 6: Secret by Kriti
Rashmi's photo is of a woman's reflection in a mirror, but she is not looking at herself. Of course there were many ways to interpret this, but Kriti must have been in a strange mood. To her, she looked like she was hiding something, like she was guilty, like she had a secret. “My photo was rather ominous - but I quite enjoyed the idea and the twist in the chain I was bound to create - there was no going back from this! This photo was never meant to be a self portrait and so was quite hard to take; but I was very happy with the lighting if not the framing of it,” says the very talented Kriti.
Photograph 7: Bravery by Keshav
“Kriti's backhand-knife photo was quite interesting. And difficult. It took me way too long to finally decide on how I'm going to interpret it. A Sunday afternoon and two hours locked in my room was how I came to realize that I'd have to go with "Bravery" because that's probably the most prominent vibe her picture gives, in my opinion. The body artwork was done freehand on me and by me using a whiteboard marker and the picture was clicked freehand as well, using no tripod, but a mirror,” says Keshav of his excellent “Stripes/Ghajini” picture.
Photograph 8: Enscribed by Vasudha
The next photo is by Vasudha and this is what she has to say about it: “MY GOD, that was a tough photograph! Absolutely brilliant, but tough. Dude, Keshav. I'm still quite sure I've got the wrong word, but this was the closest I could get.” We think you did a great job Vasudha!
Photograph 9: Freedom by Sukanya
“Vasudha's photo says "and she flew". So I guess it was about someone who has finally found freedom. So, the child in my picture is also enjoying his freedom” says Sukanya of her “swing” photo!
Photograph 10: Legs by Priya
Priya took a playful interpretation of Sukanya’s photo and furnished us with this lovely shot of New Yorkers crossing the street!
That was quite some chain of images, don’t you think?
