Even though she had lived here for so long now, Chise still loved walking through her new - if small - hometown. Walking along the small roads, many of which seemed like they had been created in the mind of some author and not by a real mans hand. Small, knee high walls overgrown with ivy, old houses that had stood here long before she had been born. Long before even her parents or grandparents had been born.
In a town so small, one would expect to have seen everything within a day or two, but even by now, she was certain there was more to see. And right she was, for each time she went out for a walk she seemingly found a new path, winding away from the main city into the woods, to some old, long forgotten home, that now provided shelter to critters and neighbors alike.
Stopping at just one of these old huts, it’s roof long collapsed inwards and the chimney threateningly crooked, she couldn’t help but take a break here. The air had the subtle, yet sharp bite to it of the coming fall, while spots where the sun came through between the trees were still filled with the warmth of summer.
Running her hands over the cobbled stones that formed the walls, she contemplated who’d have lived here last. How long it may have been and what it’d take to make this place a home again for someone else? Tapping her fingers against the stones, she turned off, walking to a small stone fence that once seperated a small garden from the path that lead up to the door.
Grabbing into the pouch at her lower back, she pulled out a thermos bottle, unscrewing the lid that would serve as the cup, she filled it with a steaming liquid that smelled of Peppermint and other, various herbs. Almost inhaling the fragrant steam, she took a deep breath in, letting the air only slowly escape, blowing it over the surface to cool it down before taking a sip.
Chise seemed distracted by the neighbors that slowly peeked out of their hiding spots, to flock to her, attracted by the sleigh beggy resting nearby. Something she had by now gotten used to, only giving them a gentle smile of acknowledgement, before letting her gaze wander across the surrounding trees that were slowly but surely encroaching on this property.
