Challenge 126: Twenties-Something: A Century of Change
I thought it would be fun to compare the hair and makeup trends of the 1920s and 2020s. It’s hard to believe it’s the same face underneath!

Challenge 126: Twenties-Something: Nosferatu
Initially when this challenge first came about I had absolutely no idea where to start. The stuff I was researching didnt seem to fit anything I was looking to create or develop a concept from. A few days into it, another member posted on the Square Carousel instagram and immediately set me on a streak of ideas. I eventually stayed on Nosferatu. This gave me the perfect excuse to finally watch the movie, which I think is incredibly creepy despite the fact it is a silent film. Studying a lot of storytelling and the history of film making, this movie came up quite a bit and I am happy to have finally watched it. Hope you enjoy the illustration!

Challenge126: Twenties-Something: Letters to Myself Moving into my 30s, I’ve reflected a bit lately on my 20s and how much happened during that time in my life. A lot of good things, and a lot of bad things. I grew a lot. I don’t think that’s a unique story at all-- everyone changes a lot during that decade. My hope with this piece is to create something that many people can relate to-- the idea that we may have created a lot of messes in our 20s, but we can also be grateful for those mistakes, because they’re what helped us become the people we are today. Challenge 126: Twenties-Something: 20′s 20′s
1920′s style meets modern day 20′s fashion. The coat is based on an all black version by famous 20′s designer Edward Molyneux, and the fringe skirt is based on a dress he designed as well. I researched upcoming fashion trends for inspiration for the top and the shoes. Did you know square toes shoes are making a comeback? Fashion in real life kind of escapes me personally, but it sure is fun to draw!

Challenge 126: Twenties-Something: An Afternoon in the Window
I was immediately drawn to creating something inspired by a mix of Mucha and Art Deco style. Because of a death in the family I chose to simplify the design but overall I’m very happy with the results. This panel will be available for sale in the studio

Challenge 126: Twenties - Something: Roaring Twenties I was very excited for the opportunity to do some work on my hand lettering skills for this challenge! An old song by one of my favorite bands came to mind; “Roaring Twenties” by Miniature Tigers. It’s a song from an old B-side I can’t seem to remember or find on the internet anywhere, but it is firmly implanted in my memory. It seemed like pretty perfect timing too, as I am seeing them play in my city later this week (for the 6th time)! I’ve used this band’s lyrics many times as inspiration for various design projects. I think it’s neat to see how my taste, style, and skills have progressed and changed while still focusing on my love for this band. And hey, I even got some actual miniature tigers in there this time! If you can somehow find this song floating around somewhere out there, definitely give it a listen! S.E.
Challenge 126: Twenties - Something: Take Care
Our world is ever-changing, we are endlessly trying to improve the environment that we live in. From our past roaring twenties, we were helping our initials selves, creating and taking from the resources our planet provided us and improving upon them to better our technological advances at the time. Nowadays we look upon our future. We want to help our planet, make are technological advances work to change the way we view our resources and limiting our initial footprint. Changing our energy resources from ones that negatively affect our planet, to ones that will leave a positive change to our ozone. In the end, we only have one planet, we need to take care of it, or else we want have a planet that is recognizable.

Challenge 126: Twenties-Something: Halloween Flapper
For the first of this year’s challenge I wanted to kick off the new 20s with a project I’ve been working on for this year’s Halloween! Halloween 2020 surely is going to be very special for me as the 1920s was my favorite time period. The Roaring 20s was a time of fashion, elegance, and rebellion for women. Because of this for this new year I’m creating a set of 4 of Halloween Flappers! I plan to license these out, so if anyone would like to license these designs please get in touch at my website below. Looking forward to an awesome new years!
