Challenge 139: Illustrated Info: Anatomy of a Good Voter
Tomorrow is a really big day in the United States, so I thought this challenge would be a good opportunity to remind folks about the duties of being a good citizen!
Wears a mask: please be sure to respect the health and safety of others, even if you’re *outside* in a line to vote!
Has a plan: this year is a very complicated one, and there are many obstacles in the way for many people. Be sure you’ve looked up the best polling locations, strategies and other things to prepare yourself!
Votes with empathy for others, too: just because something doesn’t impact you directly, doesn’t mean it isn’t important. If people in marginalized communities are telling you that a certain vote is going to hurt them, why would you vote for it anyway? Have some empathy for your fellow Americans!
Votes early: we’ve passed the point of early voting for those who were able to do so (with record turnouts!) but if you’re voting on election day, be sure to get to the polls as early as possible, because the lines are likely going to be very long.
Researches local candidates: this isn’t just an election for the presidency! Make sure you know what’s happening locally, because in many ways, those folks are having a much larger impact on your day-to-day life. Some positions don’t list political affiliation, so you want to be sure you know who you’re voting for.
Gets to that mailbox or polling location: don’t procrastinate and miss your opportunity. Now is not the time to indulge laziness!
Practices self care: however, be as lazy as you need to be, after you’ve voted and are waiting for the results. Make sure to take care of yourself and your loved ones during this difficult time. Allow space for imperfections and low productivity. Acknowledge your stress. Do things that make you happy.
Happy voting friends, and here’s to hoping for a better 2021!
