Summary: first person narrative and coffee analogies.
At least I think he did. He'd never said it, because he wasn't that sort of person, but he was really good at hinting at it in other ways.
I smiled at the coffee he handed me, complete with foam art hearts. He didn't know I liked tea better, and I wasn't going to tell him, seeing that I was sort of learning to like the bitter cream and richness of the drink. The pretty foam art helped, so did his explanation of why he thought I liked coffee.
('It's bold', he had said, speaking more to my wrist than me. 'Like you.')
He was shy - quiet in that walk next to you and hook your pinky fingers together gently way. Pretty, of course; absolutely gorgeous, even more than the models we used to sketch in class, back in uni. He wouldn't offer me his coat (he knew I disliked making him cold to warm myself up), but he would pull me towards him, only a little, until I took the initiative to bury into his side.
He smiled into my hair as we walked through the frosty park. His fingers squeezed my hip so lightly that I'd have missed it if I wasn't paying attention.
I'm bold, you know, like dark caffeine laced with cream, so I take the initiative to kiss him.
(He probably does love me, at least a little.)
