How to Overcome Problems & Difficulties
Whilst trying to attain our goals there will be obstacles that will get in our way. Both physical and mental problems! We will face setbacks – that’s just a fact of life. But instead of beating ourself up or giving in – learn from them. Also, have we got the attitude to succeed?
How many times have we started a diet, a new way of thinking, or tried something new and then a setback occurs and we just go back to the way we are?
Setbacks and difficulties occur all of the time - they are a natural activity of life. There are two ways of facing difficulties. We either change or alter the difficulty or we can alter ourself to be able to deal with it. Dealing difficulties correctly and it will enhance our confidence, dealing them incorrectly and they can do some serious damage to our self-worth.
Here are some rules and things to think about when setbacks do occur:
Acknowledge that it has happened. Don't hide from it. These things happen. So what?
What positive empowering questions can we ask ourself?
What is good about this situation?
How can I make the most of this situation?
What can I learn from it?
What are the facts about this problem?
How can we make it a successful outcome?
Acknowledge that setbacks occur to everyone and we are not being singled out.
View them as a challenge to overcome rather than an issue or problem
How to Develop Strong Inner Beliefs
Simple questions we can ask ourself to begin to clarify and develop our strong inner belief system, so that we can make decisions that are right for us. Self-acceptance gives us the much-needed energy and room to grow. Having a strong value/inner belief system is very much dependent on our ability to accept ourselves-who we are, what we feel, how we see the world independent of what others say, think, feel and do.
The benefits of a strong inner belief system are varied and great:
Stronger self confidence
Healthy self esteem
Greater life satisfaction
Comfort with self and others
It’s all well and good we having a list of goals to accomplish and all that, but how do we stay motivated?
We might think that we want to accomplish our goal but what about the choices we have to make when things get in the way?
Have a look over the goals that we have written again and the compelling reasons why we want to achieve them. We should have 3 MUST HAVE goals to work on rather than 10 wishy washy goals. The reason why people do not stay focused is that they do not have goals that are MUST HAVES. They are just NICE TO HAVES.
How to GET MOTIVATED!
To change anything in our life requires confidence. Here is a formula that will help us to change anything that we want and to get us to take action! It will help us to understand the forces at play when we are faced with making a decision as to whether changing or doing something is a must or a nice to have.
The Change Formula
There is a simple equation that we can apply to anything and everything when we are faced with a decision as to whether we want to do something or not.
When faced with such a situation we should use this.
D x V x P > C
DISATISFACTION WITH THE STATUS QUO
Basically, to start with, we must be unhappy with the present situation.
VISION
Here, we must have a vision of the situation or position that we want and why we want it.
PRACTICAL STEPS
Lastly, we must know what will be involved in order for us to change.
We need to draw up an action plan of what we need to do.
COST OF CHANGING
What will we have to sacrifice in order to change, what will be the costs? Will we have to change our beliefs?
The D x V x P will create our desire to change but we will only change if our desire is greater than the associated costs of changing (C). When faced with a decision to change think of the formula, work it out for ourself and then have the confidence and conviction to see it through.
Now go back over the things that we have written down where we lack motivation and put them into this formula – see what dynamics are at play.

The most important factor that will determine our success is what goes on in our mind. Each person is where he is and what he is because of his own mental attitude towards himself and others. Our mental attitude can travel in two directions:
It can lead us up to the path of success or to the road of failure - the choice is entirely ours.
No matter what we are doing in life it is our attitude before, throughout and after that activity that will determine our success. There is a simple rule with regards to our thinking in everything that we do:
Think positively and we will end up with positive results.
Think negatively and we will end up with negative results.
HOW TO FORM AND KEEP A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE (PMA)
The first thing that we can do to maintain a P.M.A is by always thinking and acting on the “Can do” portion of every plan or purpose and refusing to accept the “No can do” approach. Positive people are solution orientated and look for the good in every situation whereas negative minded people believe that problems and obstacles cannot be surpassed.
All it takes is a smile
Many people in life are only too quick to criticize people when they do something wrong, and don’t even appreciate us when we do something right! What we must do in order to create a positive mental attitude is to either start or increase the amount of times that we complement other people.
By making other people feel good, we will feel good, and it will enhance our Positive Mental Attitude. By focusing on the positive aspects of people we enhance their P.M.A and make them a lot happier. Something that goes hand in hand with complementing other people is the way in which we treat others. There is a simple rule to this:
Treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves
In order to do this, we must treat everyone as though they are the most important person in the world - because to them, they are! One of the Success Laws is that whatever we hand out in life we get back, but what we get back is ten times as much. By making other people feel worthwhile, useful and treated like the most important person in the world we too will be treated in exactly the same manner - but ten times as much.
Believe, conceive and achieve
One thing that we must start doing is act as though success is inevitable. Picture success in our mind at all times and burn it in our subconscious mind. Always focus on the outcome that we want to achieve in everything that we do. Remember, what the mind can believe and conceive, the mind can achieve. We have within us a sleeping giant, whom we can direct to perform any service that we desire. The power of our mind and imagination is truly an exceptional and incredible function.
Rehearsal practice – “We’ve succeeded before we have even begun”
An important technique that we can use to improve our positive mental attitude is what is known as Rehearsal practice. We can use the power of our mind to get better results.No matter what we have to do or in any situation that we face, if we rehearse it over in our imagination first, we will find that we will do it better. It is as though we are training our subconscious to behave in a certain way to obtain the result that we desire.
It is said that attitude is a little thing that makes a BIG difference.
We will need a positive attitude to attain our goals and we will also need a positive mind to grow, to develop and to progress. During life’s journey we will need to keep a positive attitude in the face of opposition - from other people and from adverse situations.
If we remain positive and make sure that we are not susceptible to the negative influences of other people - WE WILL SUCCEED.
Without a positive attitude we will find it difficult to achieve anything in life. Remember, it will be our attitude that will determine our success. People who are negative never get anywhere and are invariably unsuccessful.
