The cacophony of street merchants and townsfolk were mere background noise. Chanai was a man on a mission on a hunt to score a rather fine piece rumored to be here: a jewel for a client too high-perched on their pedestal to mingle amongst the fray and a blade. The latter for his own pleasures, no doubt, but that was between him, his heart, the itch of his fingers and the roam of his eyes.
However, said roam of his eyes stuttered. Not because of a particular item, but someone. A strange cross in his peripheral that made his steps pause, his head turn. The lining of his stomach gave way to the flutter of recognition that dared to almost take his breath away.
“...Jade?”
Never could forget the color of those scales.
The call of her name made the assassin pause, losing sight of the target her eyes had been trained on from a distance. She frowned softly — she’d have to find him later. A high priority target getting up to who knows what without her knowledge couldn’t be allowed. A silent curse left her lips at herself for getting distracted before striking violet hues were searching out for the voice that called to her.
There was a soft hum when she spotted the fellow au ra that had called out to her and her heart skipped a beat. How long had it been now..? Years..? She’d kept out of the hustle and bustle of those she’d once knew, despite all they’d taught her — the ways they’d shown her how to survive. It was a reunion she’d never expected, but maybe one she should have. God knows an au ra like her was not one easily forgotten.
“Chanai, is that truly you..?” Jade murmured softly, her voice lilted with disbelief. She moved out of the bustle of the market to a much quieter alley, gesturing to the xaela to follow. “How have you been, hm? It has been a... while, no?”
