I have a special spot in my condemned building of a heart for The Chandails. Special enough to get me to wear out the tire tread on my eardrums blasting their beautiful brand of lo-fi-garage-post-rock-minimalist-past-it-all-rock-pop. Something about The Chandails as a band seems to be so distinctly Arizonian to me, which is a tricky thing to pin down unless you’re of here. There is a casual apathy to their music that sends a mellow and numb twinge down your spine, paired with some of the most honest to god catchy guitar leads I’ve ever heard. “Tunnel” and “Echoed” seem to exemplify this rather well. The result is a subdued sort of half-excitement perhaps akin to taking a Valium with a Redbull and reading old love letters with a Comet Gain LP… It rules.

There is a very intelligent vibe going on here but with an unmistakable youthfulness to it. Easily personified to me as the nerdy kids you cut off in the lunch line coming back to slaughter you with serious riffs and flawless SAT scores. The kind of jams Wes Anderson probably wishes all “the kids” would listen to, but played with sincere attitude and finesse by a pack of malcontents who would never get caught dead at a fucking Wes Anderson movie (prick). This is the good shit right here. Grip it!
